Raccoons
Anyone having trouble with raccoons in their yard these days? I lost a prize goldfish to one, and they have also knocked over plants and emptied water jugs. We haven't had this problem before. Will the city come and trap them and take them elsewhere? I imagine people with cats and little kids would be interested in knowing about this.

I had them earlier this summer, but Dolores & Sons have moved on

henry,
legally, and raccoon trapped will be euthanized. not saying this should or shouldn't happen, but it's the law.
read flexi's thread, and search on the board. there are raccoon's aplenty here in south brooklyn -

if they are really a nuisance the best way to get rid of them is to make grits and load it up with crushed red pepper or cayenne. spread it around their usual haunts. they step in it, lick their paws, and never come back.

Silly boy - thats the Raccoon Lodge (actual bar in downtown Manhattan on Warren Street)! Neighbors called NYPD when an adult raccoon got into the garden apartment - they borrowed a laundry basket, grabbed the little bugger and (supposedly) hauled him off to the other side of the park. How THAT solved anything but the immediate occupancy problem I dunno . . . .

I had an entirely family going after my koi. As far as the city goes, you're on your own. I started with the have-a-heart traps but the vicious buggers were too hazardous to release. So I got a big pellet gun with lead centers. Much more effective. Much less legal but vastly superior.

I've got a family of them using my fire escape and peering into my bedroom at night(creepy). Who do you suggest to call to catch them and to determine how to prevent them from using my roof.

There's a teacher at the middle school on 5th Avenue @ 4th Street who moonlights as an animal control guy. You've probably seen his ancient Cadillac ambulance parked by the school, or I think on 12th-13th or 14th Streets between PPW and 7th Avenue.
I guess since you have Kramden, Norton, Alice and Trixie ... and maybe the little dog LuLu and Mrs. Manicotti downstairs ... maybe even Carlos, the mambo king ... get help quick. Or else you'll be traveling to the Raccoons national cemetery in Bismarck, North Dakota .... -
Bang zoom! They might even be into that rum candy again (they KNOW its kept in the bedroom closet). Or maybe its the Chinese restaurant around the corner (certain smells travel up at specific times).
WHATEVER it is - make sure you take care of the entire troop. As the colder weather approaches they will try to break in. The ASPCA and Animal Control never responded when we called.
Howdy, Stranger!
