Good, cheap Italian deliveries — Brooklynian

Good, cheap Italian deliveries

I'm wondering if there's a place in the neighborhood anyone would recommend for basic (but good) Italian food for deliveries. You know, the kind of place where you can get a chicken parm/franchese w/ a side of pasta or salad in the $10 range. We've tried a few places, including Aunt Suzies -- not too impressed -- and have settled on Pino's La Forchetta (pizza joint on 7th Ave at 2nd). It's not too bad, but wondering if there's a hidden treasure we haven't found yet.

I've settled on Pino's (reluctantly too). If anybody has advice that includes Windsor Terrace.........I like Joe's on 5th Ave. (used to be owned by another family), but talking them into a WT delivery takes more charm than I have sometimes

Joe's between 11th and 12th? I love their slices (not DiFara's quality but grossly underrated), but have never tried their entrees. They never seem to have menus, either. I'll give them a shot.

yes, btw. 11/12. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called before (nice family who apparently moved back to Italy).
  • there's a place on 21 st street & 5 ave great food even better prices.
They've even filmed a couple of movies there.
  • i like trattoria mulino on 5th...they're a little bit more than $10, but still reasonable and good...
here's a review i just found by googling it:

    TRATTORIA MULINO V
133 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope, 718-398-9001

A real contrast with the pretentious and expensive Tuscan-style restaurants of upscale Brooklyn, Trattoria Mulino highlights Neapolitan cooking of the sort that dominated the borough for a century, delivered in generous servings and atrociously misspelled on the menu. Manicotti is a pair of pasta cylinders bulging with spinach and fresh ricotta, topped with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella; grilled shrimp refreshingly simple and lolling on a bed of arugula; while—my favorite on a first meal—Sicilian calamari is a generous heap of well-braised squid served over linguine, reminding me of a similar dish at Babbo. The decor is deliciously unhip. $

    Thanks, folks.

    Flexichick, I thing you're talking about Luigi's.
  • Are you saying it used to be called Luigi's? Because that doesn't ring a bell. I think it started with an A before. Now, it's defintely called Joe's.

I should know, I had a slice there 3 hours ago.

    Here's a great map. It's on 5th btw. 11/12

    Oh, I'm sorry, I meant seven24. Yep., Joe's I know very well. I had a slice there Friday. :D
  • In my burst of productivity (read: trying to get stuff out of the house), I was cleaning up my "menu file".

The place that was there before Joe's Pizza on 5th was called Mondellos. It was run by a nice family - parents, a son who made deliveries and a guy who looked like the brother of the father. I heard they moved to Italy. One day they were just GONE and it was Joe's.

Not sure if any of you care, but it was bugging the hell out of ME
