Tailor in Prospect Heights/Crown Heights

Hey folks,
I didn't see any recent posts on this, so I wanted to know if there's a good but not super expensive tailor that people recommend in either Prospect Heights or Crown Heights (I'm on the border).

I need some jeans hemmed, a dress altered, shirt shortened, etc. Since it's quite a few things, I want to take it to someone dependable.

Thanks in advance!

  • I've had decent luck with the guy who's between Sterling & St. John's on Washington. The only problem is that he's not on the most reliable schedule, so I've been by there a few times to have something altered only to need to return when the tailor is in the shop.

I had an awesome tailor when I lived in Boston. I haven't been able to find that level here, which is disappointing.
  • I think BK Chickie is referring to G.O. Hussey.

He hours are a bit irregular, but his work is the best I've ever seen, highly reccomended.

    I think that I am.

His work is good, and he's a funny guy.

Do you have any sample prices?

He took in two dresses for me recently, and I think that the total bill was something like $60. Very reasonable.
  • So Hussey is in the laundromat on the east side of the block between St Johns and Sterling?
  • I would recommend Tony at My Montuno Tailoring (810 Washington). Hussey can be "funny" but he also can be way too flirty. He also told my friend that if she lost weight, maybe the dress she was having tailored would fit her better. I think Tony is great (they actually used to work together). He is reasonably priced. He will tailor your clothes withing 24 hours. Just be warned that he isn't always in when you go to pick up the clothing and the place is so unorganized that nobody else in the place will be able to find them. Just call ahead to make sure he's there.
  • I highly recommend Tony as well. I've had tons of stuff altered with him. He's reliable, fast, reasonably priced, and very professional.
  • Now I'm not sure if I went to Tony or G.O. Is Tony Jamaican?
