Hired help for loading moving truck?

Hi. I know there a few posters here who have "man with a van" services. I'm looking for a few hours assistance tomorrow with loading a moving van, from about 8AM-noon on Sat 9/5.

Also, where on a Sat morning can you go to hire day laborers?

Comments

  • Both entrances to U-Haul company on 4th has fellows for hire.
  • Ditto Home Depot by the Gowanus.
  • What's the going rate for these guys? How does it work?
  • since they are handling your stuff (as opposed to your lumber), I'd be a little weary.

You could also try Craigslist, under the faulty logic that labor that can use the internet is better than those who can't

    good luck.

Depending on the job, day labor makes $100 a day. For a moving job, I'd ask the guy who works at u-haul if he knows any of them. If they are regulars, you might have less risk.

there is an episode of South Park that touches on this topic. check it out.
  • U-Haul has a partner movinghelp.com that will load and unload trucks. You can book them online. No idea what they cost, never used them but there is a chance that these guys are licensed and insured.
  • Try, Coney Island Avenue between Church & Ave. H. They stand in front of the McDonald's & the car wash.
    Much luck
Or, the pizza delivery guys. They work more in the evening. And they have
friends to ask that might need work.
