Park Slope Raccoon!
Tonight at about 11pm I was walking on 5th Ave at about 5th street and saw a giant raccoon running down the sidewalk! I have heard there are a bunch of raccoons around but I had never actually seen one until tonight. I know that they can be trouble makers, but im not gonna lie, I was pretty excited to see a wild animal in BK. It seemed to not care at all about all the people around. It took a right and headed down twds 4th ave. Anyone else see this guy?

I live on 7th off of 4th Ave and I'm pretty sure there's been a fat raccoon snacking on my tomatoes

Mine too! Someone/something took a bite out of one of ours. We guess it was a raccoon due to the size of the bite.

When I lived at PPW and 10th, there was a family of raccoons living in the roof of the brownstone across from my apartment. I never had the heart to give them up. Then one day I saw a guy setting out steel traps. He caught them all. I asked him what would happen to them. He said he took them upstate and let them go in the woods. I used to believe in the Easter Bunny, too....

i saw this guy on friday night while waiting for sandwiches at reis 100. totally huge and overweight, and not intimidated by people at all.
my tomatoes are getting eaten as well, and i've seen a raccoon back there but am not sure if it's that or the squirrells. -
Saw one this spring on Prospect Place between close to Carlton. Some guys from the Phoenix House warned me. Big, rolly-poly just waddling down the sidewalk. It was already dark The racoon just wandered in and out of each home entrance looking for open garbage cans?.
Frankly, I don't want to get tooclose to the raccoons because they can have rabies.
The funny part of the story was how these three big guys and little ole me walked up the middle of the street to avoid him
Oh, and a week or so later, a raccoon must have dug a hole through our plastic cover on the garbage can. The garbage bag inside was scratched open. -
Why worry about raccoons when you have Absolute Death?

Raccoons are dangerous.
They will come in open windows. Their feces are extremely dangerous.

They do eat Cats and Pidgeons. I've seen it with my own eyes and they wiped out my SF neighborhood of every cat that was allowed to stay out at night.
Best to call animal control if they hanging around your block.
They are not cool! They pass very deadly parasites and harbor rabies. -

Huh - I'm close by and thought I heard one rattling my garbage cans over the weekend. Will keep my eyes open and contact Animal Control if I see it. -
My Hubby and I had one try to get into our apartment at the start of the summer. It ate through our screen. We have a BIIIGG FATTY FAT FAT Cat who sat on the edge of our bed growling at it and we are pretty sure that kept this raccoon out. We were out to dinner and were freaked out when we got home.
We tried to scare it off with noise, flashlights, a camera (got lots of photos), turning the lights on, and other things. It just kinda sat there looking at us like we were the main attraction in a zoo.
We called 311 to get animal control - they sent the police who were polite, nice, kind and totally useless.
Eventually he went away. He hasn't been back since.
Get yourselves a guard kitty.
