  • I'm surprised no one mentioned 7th ave & 2nd st yet - abandoned buildings & glass falling on people - it can be tough getting around the scaffolding & all the strollers. Oh and there was a drug bust in broad daylight just last week too.
  • I don't know about you guys, but before dark I make it a point to get home to Bed Stuy, where it's safe.
  • By the way, I'm not joking.

you owe me a new monitor.
  • This is it? I go home and come back to work and this is all we can come up with? Where's our entitlement? Where's your righteous outrage at my opinions that are different from yours? Christ, I need to lighten up.

By the way: Where can I get a good hammer in the Slope? I can't seem to find a decent one at my grocery store and I'm at a loss on what to do.
  • Aww. Did you want to make it to Gawker or something?
  • I was shooting for Gothamist...then I'd know I'd have hit the bigtime.

In reality...I just wanted to liven up these boring discussions here lately...we were turning into the Cobble Hill message board.

I may not be reading into sarcasm but if you're being serious the hardware store on 5th Ave & 7th St is pretty good. It looks like a bomb hit the inside but once you find what you need, the prices are pretty fair and the quality is nice.
  • Sorry...sarcasm doesn't travel well in cyberspace. I was exaggerating to make a humorous point. FAIL for me.

    or New Jersey!

Or "Pennsyltuckey." Hear it's nice this time of year.

I just moved in a new apartment close to this hardware store and they are really great. No need to hoof down to Lowes and they are at least 15% cheaper than the hardware store on 7th ave. and 2nd street.

As for blocks to avoid. St John's between 5th and 6th has never been the most comfortable block to walk down although it is a great block to cop whatever you need to get you through the night.

Ok, in defense of my eyeglasses post... not all posts are for your amusement, spleenish fellow (if you are not at least 90 years old, you are in serious trouble). Many are to receive local recommendations, and to engage in a dialogue regarding options based on personal experience, as opposed to the raw info one gets at Google.

For example, one might ask, "Where can I listen to kids playing sports and skating so loudly that I can bitch about it and look pathetic?" Answer: "A sports and skating park. You'll find one behind the Old Stone House."

Or, "Where can I find loud delivery trucks that will open the door to a purposeless rant?" Answer: "Try any supermarket, as all supermarkets require frequent visits by delivery trucks. As a long-time Sloper, I find the trucks at the 9th St. C-Town to be more than sufficient for your needs."

    That sort of thing.
  • It's called Leopoldi's. The worst block is President between 8th and PPW.
  • long ago in central slope

it was the corner of coke dealer and crack head

its been renamed as trust fund poet and gold digger
  • That OP was terrific!

 I'm pretty sure thats the answer pastoralia was hoping for.

  • Fail for me then.
I was giving what i thought was giving the
"correct" sarcastic answer to your sarcastic question.

IOW - simply agreeing with your OP.

How about the homeless in this neighborhood?

There are those homeless who lash out at people if they
do not give them enough money or any money.

Then there are the cute ones that stand

RIGHT OUTSIDE THE teller machines at the bank,
like, "how dare you not have money for me"?

And then therewas the regular homeless guy stationed outside of the
Supermarket on 7th Avenue, for years and years, is he finally gone
    out of the neighborhood?

One of the things that makes park slope horrible is the

    homeless who hit!!

Yes, there used to be that lady homeless person
who would SWING at people who didn't give her money,
    the nerve!

She had one arm, and one stub and she would
poke her stub in your face to get sympathy money from you.

How's that for a park slope rant?
pastoralia wrote: I am a grumpy old man today. Don’t hold the train because your fat girlfriend can’t get up the steps in time; Don’t hold conversations with people when you’re on the treadmill (tip: if you’re talking about how much you loved Julie and Julia you’re not moving fast enough); and Don’t sit on other people's stoops and talk on your cellphone...Seriously. If you want to help pay my rent you can take a load off and bitch about how your boss doesn’t know what she’s doing.

Now that I've established by cranky credentials I want to know what the worst corners/blocks are in PS.

    I'll get us started.

    18th street between 6th and 7th avenues
I lived across the school there for 3 years and every night kids would be in the school’s courtyard, playing baseball till midnight. Imagine hearing an aluminum bat hitting a ball, screaming, and a bat dinging on the pavement every 30 seconds. Add to this the clown who would wash his car every weekend with the stereo pumping bass so hard my windows rattled … it made me want to firebomb the street.

The corner of 7th Avenue and 12th street
What is the deal on this block? People always hanging out on their stoops, kids screaming in the street, shady types hanging on the corner eyeballing everyone. Every time I walk by I think "Man, I'm glad I don't live here.”

The corner of 5th and 5th
That poor deli. I went in there one night and the owners were trying to get three punks to leave because they were just sitting on the ice-cream case texting their friends and swearing. They ended up just hanging outside and being even louder and ruder.

This is my new favorite: the basketball/handball/skate park behind the Old Stone House.
I walked by last night and it was like a war zone with skaters banging their boards, basketballers swearing at each other, and just the usual teenage craziness. Must be peaceful to come home to every night.

Living above C-Town on 9th Street
Do you love delivery trucks at 7am? How about ratty-ass delivery vans cranking shit music all afternoon? Like the sporadic sound of metal carts hitting cement poles? Then this is the place for you!

That's my rant. Flame away or add your own corners of irritation. And before some clown says: That's life in the city. I know it's life in the city but it doesn't mean I have to cuddle with it. Sometimes I just like to bitch. If nothing else this might be a more interesting topic than “Where can I get eyeglasses?” Answer: google it. Or “What happened to CNN?” Answer: google it.

    As I said, grumpy today.
  • OMG. Which corner is the stubby lady on?
