J'ouvert

A bunch of us are going, but there's no way I'm bringing my camera. It can get messy at J'ouvert and I'd rather not be worrying about my camera.
-
Oh cool. I hope you have fun
Where does it occur?
My block has been a bumpin party all night.... -
I heard it last night- must have been real close, couldn't see them though. Anyway- sounded like an enormous group! The ones in recent past haven't been as large due to the weather, so it was nice to hear them in full force.
Did you go, Carn? -
Yeah, a bunch of us went, including Big Guy, Mougar, christina, doctorj, nomad and stewart (who came out for the first time last night- yay newbs!). I didn't get home until almost 6. It was great. We swung by the parkway for food at one point, since some of the vendors were already set up, including one right by your place.

You bought Stewart beverages, right? -
"We come mostly for the food. We love the food. We march up and down the parkway and gain weight. March back and lose the weight."

who put the bump in the bump the bump the bump
who's going this year? been living in and around PH/CH for 4 years but never sampled j'ouvert. determined to go this year before i move to DC.
GAP at around 3am, right? wear old clothes? do they play through rain? -
I will be there. I've been going to the parade for many many years, but this will be my third J'Ouvert.
-
so the parade goes GAP>flatbush>empire, right? and it ends up on linden blvd at some point?
when do you usually break off? what's a good route heading back north? -
I usually stick mostly to Flatbush between GAP and Empire. Get a good spot and check out all the steel bands. Don't be afraid to join in any of the dance parties that spring up around each of the bands. People are totally welcoming. Then head over to Eastern Parkway and check out any food stands that have set up early for the parade.
Good times.
FYI, either take a nap before going out, or hang out at one of the neighborhood bars that's still open until 3 or 4. Not much point getting there much earlier than that.
Howdy, Stranger!
