    My question is- what is NON-perishable cheese?

    Depends on your definition of cheese...Velveeta, cheeze wizz, and other "cheese products" that do not require refrigeration can probably outlast us all...

    I dunno, Parmigiana? Aged Gouda? Ricotta Salata? They don't perish so much as harden.

    technically, those are not cheeses, but as you quoted, "Cheese products." Different beasts.

    UPDATE: returned to Fairway yesterday - rotten burrata in hand (actually in sealed container).

    Went to see Gary, the cheese manager @ Red Hook. Introduced myself and told my story. Gary said that he "heard about it from his boss who had read about it on the Internet."

    Gary told me his boss yelled at him. Gary told me it would never happen again. Gary told me that 3 or 4 times. I shook hands w/Gary. Fairway gladly refunded the purchase price.

    I bought some more burrata. Ate it last night. It was perfect.

    Balance in the universe has been restored.

    I love Fairway and believe you, so thanks for the information.

    Key Food on 7th Avenue sold cheese one YEAR past its expiration date, but at least the horrific date was stamped on the outside of the package so anyone but my partially blind grandmother could read it.

    Back to the Land sold fish -- FISH -- with TWO DIFFERENT expiration dates. How does this stuff happen? Is it intentional or are workers drinking while stamp gunning fish?

    By the way, Gary is innocent until proven guilty, however, WHOEVER did put that bad cheese out there deserved getting yelled at. Old food can be dangerous.
