Rancho Allegre would be, if it were located in a area that never heard of Mexico and had never tasted Mexican food, a really mediocre, bordering on not very good, restaurant.
Have never been to the others, nor heard of most, although Playa (and Cabana Bar) are owned by the same couple that own Barrio. -
I'd be curious if anyone can comment on Picasso Asian Fusions. I absolutely hate that name, but it seems to have gotten good reviews on menu pages.

alto voce is always empty. they went on vacation for two weeks at the end of august, and they just opened back up but there's a sign up that says 'private events only'.
pizza plus is great, and the owners are super nice. one of the best places for slices in the slope, it's a bummer they stop selling slices at 5pm though.
went to playa once and it was ok. ordered like lobster sliders or something and they were fine but on the worst grocery store buns. they always seem to be running decent drink specials. -

They just changed their name to Tenko; apparently it's still the same operation. -

I haven't tried it, since they tried to shill about their place here, pretending to be customers. -

Helios seemed deserted today. If you like it and can afford it, eat it and save it from going out of business. -
Athena -- tacky interior, so-so food.
Pizza Plus -- nice people, good service, inferior pizza
Scalino -- also nice people, good atmosphere, good food. best of this bunch
Watana -- I liked it a lot when it first opened, less so lately. -
Alto Voce - Heard this is related to Sotto Voce so I will never go because Sotto Voce is so horrid. Even if I am wrong, they must change their name before I will consider eating there due to bad associations.
Pizza Plus - Love it. The owners are amazing. The food is just really good. It is basic, American-Italian cuisine. The pizza is great and the lunch special is amazing. They have a nice patio too. Seriously, this is our go-to Saturday lunch when we had a busy morning. They are fab.
Scalino - I think they are really good and sometimes wonder why I don't go there more often. The food is a little on the oily side - but it is mostly olive oil so that's really not a big deal. Tons of flavor, good waiters who know their stuff, all in all it is a good place.
Ten - Not a big fan. I think there are other Sushi places that are better. They aren't bad but they aren't really good either.
Watana - I like them and now that they have alcohol I can go a lot more frequently. My Husband isn't a huge fan and I don't quite know why. It is pretty standard Thai and their delivery is pretty quick.
Hope this helps! Great Post idea - we should always try to broaden our restaurant horizons - I am going to try a few of the places I didn't try yet now. -
Pizza Plus - good enough. Not the best pizza I've ever had but perfectly acceptable, and they're really friendly.
Rancho Alegre - my go-to down-and-dirty Mexican. Solid regular food, nice service. They can get overwhelmed if a lot of people come in at the same time but the wait staff is always smiling.
Scalino - been there once, thought it was OK but not more than that.
Ten - one great meal, one OK. I think Oshima's sushi is much better but Ten is acceptable if you're in the South Slope and don't want the long walk up 7th Avenue.
Watana - bad takeout experience but I like eating in. Beet has better flavor in its food but Watana's atmosphere is much less strident. -
Scalino - walked in there last saturday, walked out after looking at the menu. Way too heavy for a sunny summer day. maybe i'll try again when fall is in full swing.

I've never seen more than 2 tables seated at Scalino...is it ever busy?

Athena:
Went there this weekend for lunch. Got the cold appetizer that came with three cold dips (a tzaziki, baba ganoush, and a disgusting fish egg thing), along with three little squares of feta and two grape leaves.
Also got the mixed grill. Small portions of lamb, pork, chicken with some salad. Total bill was around $30. The meats were dry and the dips were nothing special. If we weren't freakin' starving we probably wouldn't have stopped. I won't be back.
As an aside: We ordered essentially the same thing for delivery from Istanbul Park on 7th Ave and 7th and it was immeasurably better. A wide assortment of cold dips, fresh bread, and a great meat assortment that was cooked perfectly and served over their delicious rice. I hated on this place when it first opened but now it's my favorite Middle Eastern style place to eat. I'd never actually sit inside the restaurant (seems sad and sterile) but it's great for delivery.
