Anyone ever heard of Griot Circle? GRIOT Circle is an intergenerational and culturally diverse community based organization dedicated to enriching the lives of older lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, especially Elders of color. You'll never guess where it began....Crown Heights.
-
I didn't know about GRIOT, so thanks. Sounds like a much-needed organization, and how cool that it began in Crown Heights. What does the acronym stand for? [I googled this, and the website didn't say.]
First, rotis. Now GRIOT. Yet another reason to like Crown Heights. -
this must be a joke. could have been funnier. poor execution.
-
They chose the name because of the meaning of the word griot (gre-o, gre’o, gre’ot) n.: A storyteller in western Africa who perpetuates the oral tradition and history of a village or family.

when was a Q added to the end of LGBT?

o yes it is , when i get older and have kids , i dont want my kids leaving church to see gays walking around on every sqaure mile of the community , you want gay yuppies go to western bk , or lower manhattan, then you can make all the gay friends you want..what is so difficult??
Hey, Christian values! Go to NY Craigslist... Brooklyn casual encounters M4M section... and have fun counting the number of god-fearing Crown Heights locals advertising for gay sex. They sure as heck don't look like yuppies.
But ... they are on the down low, of course! Saving a veneer of churchy respectability while sucking c*ck on the DL and disparaging gays is profoundly Christian, isn't it? And that's exactly the kind of bigoted, close-minded, self-lying attitude that does not depend on class, skin color or education. It just depends on ingrained stupidity, which is color-blind. -

Yep. And I bet if you talked to those on the DL outside that context, many would probably spout the same kind of homophobic nonsense as YLMA.

it really bugs me that christianity = war and homophobia ... that really bothers me. as a christian, i condone neither of those things -- part of a large group gives the whole group a terrible name.

Yes they do. -

you can substitute "islam" for "christianity" and it's still true. funny how it works like that. could it possibly be something about religion as an institution that fosters and breeds these psychotics? -

crime was lowering before you weirdos got here , also like one of these bloggers said why would you move to a neighborhood to complain about crime , wouldnt it be smarter to move a crime free or low crime area in the first place??? you people just lack culture and just want the neighborhoods to drain with you
I like that young professionals of ALL ethnicities are moving to the area. We, regardless of color, tend to demand better services and crime reduction tactics.
Also, my entire block was occupied by Jewish people prior to blacks moving in.
You condemn white flight (towards the suburbs in the '60s, admittedly for pretty ugly reasons) and yet now also condemn white professionals moving in to the neighborhood. Isn't that just a new form of white flight, but now away from the suburbs (and other over-priced neighborhoods)? For a self-proclaimed Christian, you're not acting much like one. -
wait, didn't christians do the crusades and lots of other nonsense?

After reading all these posts, I notice that lots are very angry on this forum, and lots are very discriminatory on this forum.
Here is a thought on the topic: re: christians, gays , jews , and neighborhood, etc.
1. To the christians that openly attack gays and other groups, to you who adamantly oppose gay marriage, have you ever come out and protested against mass murderers? Or against any of the other sickening criminals that are in our cities? Have you ever come out and protested and have parades protesting marriage in jail? Probably not. You think it is okay to have murderers and criminals in jail for life -to marry ANYONE they want to marry, but you think it is not okay for gays to marry. That is so backwards.
2. To those of you making notes here about other groups, Jews etc, christians, and Christians, this is plain discrimination.
Most of the times, when I see people angry at groups they are really more angry at themselves than they are at others. Anyone who does not like themself usually will find a hatred for others (other groups etc).
I am against attacking people in public including verbally, and I find those posts offensive that verbally attack any particular groups of people.
Hate? That is another story. It just appears that SOME christians hate some groups. And that hate is not biblically correct. We are taught to love everyone, including our neighbor. What does that mean? It means you can not or should not hate any group of people IF you want to really follow the true teachings of the Bible. -
