Dean and Franklin? cheap apt. is it bollocks?
So I was interested in this one-bedroom on the northeast corner of Dean and Franklin for $850. Right about now, you're thinking, "this place must have some bloody serious flaws to be so cheap."
Basically, it was a street-level one-bedroom (decent size, well-kept, new appliances, nice bathroom) that was sort of like a side attachment to the main apartment building and had its own, separate street-facing entrance. It had one window, which faced out southward on Franklin.
But here are some of the rental lady's statements:
"Only a dude could live in this place," followed by a long sigh and both of us staring at the floor for 30 seconds.
"The window is going to get bars put on it."
"I hope you don't have a lot of equipment, like a bass or drums or computer/electronic stuff." (nope)
"People like to look in that window." (WTF?)
"Honestly, I'd keep looking."
Does anyone have any other guesses why it is so cheap? Bus lines on that street? It has been vacant about a month.

It sounds like the rental agent was pretty upfront about the drawbacks: no privacy and frequent robberies.

You'd better invest in some good locks, a j-bar, window bars and a renter's insurance plan if you take the place. -

generally those agents dont warn you. he seems nice. so best take his advice. if you could afford better dont take it. if youre broke well and its the right price. make sure youre well protected have a bat or something around.
