Tried Sadie Mae's Cafe for the first time tonight. We were SO disappointed to see Yakitori Canteen close as it was one of Park Slope's best kept secrets.

As for Sadie Mae's, well, I'm giving it a C- to D+. They are obviously quite new to restauranteering, but my was it disorganized and the food was basically a heat lamp mediocre soul food buffet at gentrified prices. We had no menu and our waiter, a truly nice guy, read off the menu from his notepad and did not know the prices for anything. When we got the food in less than 5 minutes, including fried chicken and other more time-consuming items, I knew it was a heat lamp thing, which may be an okay thing--that is until I got the check. I had the barbecued ribs with grits and collard greens as my two sides. The ribs were chopped across the bone in one inch cubes and had virtually no meat. The sauce was KC Masterpiece, I believe, or some other OTC sauce bought in bulk at Costco. The grits were the best part of the meal, collard greens were mush-overcooked and underspiced. Price for this entree? $17.00!! Gimme a break.

Long story short = skip it. Don't get too broken up over it, though. When they close in a few months, which they will, there may be another hidden gem coming to 6th Avenue and Sterling!
