Montauk Club Party Noise
I am the father of an infant and we live in close proximity to the Montauk Club, a place which I really love. What my wife and I have found not so lovely is the level of party noise coming from the MC, especially on weekend nights. Have any of you readers had similar issues, and have you done anything about it? I'm not really the complaining type, but the noise has been pretty bad this summer. Thank you!

I have walked by and heard music, but not loud enough to turn my head. If it's annoying you, you should call 311 (when it's happening) and ask for them to take a noise measurement. Given that they are smack-dab in a residential area, my knee-jerk reaction is that the Montauk Club should be held to a strict adherance to the noise ordinances.

Why not go over to the Montauk Club and talk to them rather than calling 311? You can go there while the noise is happening or any other time. Let management know that the music is too loud. The management is probably renting out their space for weddings and such and probably isn't even there when the events take place and have no idea the noise is that loud. Why not give them a chance to rectify the situation before calling authorities.

If you have time and want to spend your free time talking to the Montauk Club, sure, try talking with them. If you're just getting home late at night and the noise is too loud and you must sleep, call 311.

Personally, I agree with Raw's take on this.
If it was my neighbor I would try to talk with the people first but in this case if I was being made nuts late at night and my screaming infant couldn't get to sleep because of the noise I would be calling 311. -
and disturbance from noise is usually subjective. That's why the noise ordinances are so specifically written. There's a chance that though you're being disturbed they are still quieter than what the law limits, in which case it's up to you to a) mitigate the noise in your apartment yourself and b) try to work it out amicably with the club.
I assume the club is bringing in outside vendors as DJ's and bands, in which case it's to their benefit to be able to say to the vendors "hey, we get tickets if you go above ___ db after 10PM, you guys have to turn it down" and maybe they'll even go to radio shack and buy a $75 sound level meter to self-police the vendors. -
This thread is pathetic... and would be embarrassing if any of you were adults.
That music ain't getting turned down because of this posting...
5 EZ steps
1) talk to club
2) talk to club again
3) call cops
4) throw a rock through there window
5) call club last time to thank them for turning music down -
DR, the town curmudgeon.

DR is back with name calling and attitude.
moderator, please! -
I don't think that qualifies as name calling. But either way,
MOD NOTE: DR, please ignore posts that annoy you. The first part of this month was filled with enough warnings and bannings. Let have a more peaceful second half. -
I was out on the street after 10PM last week and did hear loud music coming from the Montauk Club. From the street, I enjoyed the music, but if I lived next to the MC, I would not be happy hearing it, especially if I had to wake up at 6 AM the next day.

Good luck, I hope you get it resolved.
"Today, the Club is a vibrant part of its Park Slope, Brooklyn neighborhood. Members organize a variety of events year-round. Recently the Club has hosted talks by local authors, jazz performances, prohibition era cocktail functions and Victorian era salon parties. Book and wine clubs are popular and the bar is always crowded for Thursday “Living Room” nights featuring live music at the piano.
In addition to Club events, the Club House is available to members for personal and business entertaining."
FIRST THURSDAYS COCKTAIL PARTY SEPTEMBER 3
Coming this Thursday, September 3rd, The Montauk Club will launch a new “First Thursday” cocktail party series. Each First Thursday of the month, members can enjoy live music, dancing and cocktails in the first floor ballroom.
The Entertainment Committee is pleased to announce that our kick-off event on September 3rd will begin at 6 pm and run up to midnight with the sounds of Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra.

I will also add that anyone who holds any authority to change the noise policy of the club or is an owner or manager will not be there at 10pm to hear your personal complaint. Just call 311. Then during the day speak to a manager regarding future noise compliance. -
and if you think it's bad for their neighbors, think how the people who own condos IN the building must feel about them having a party-night on weeknights advertised as going until midnight
like this one, that's for sale: http://www.corcoran.com/property/listing.aspx?Region=NYC&listingid=1843818
Anyone wanna pay $2.9mil for a condo in a building that hosts loud parties? -

Good luck finding a $2.3 million mortgage with only 10% down in this economic climate!
