Why isn't the bar/lounge 95 South mixed??

  • So, with 95 South, it isn't a black/white thing, but with FP, it IS!
haha, who knows? probably a bit of it at both places. i mean, just look in the gates at Franklin Park and then look around you. it's comical.

i do think Franklin Park has a sweet setup, though. i would go there a lot more if they had a pool table. as it is, it's nice to go there for happy hour drinks from time to time.
  • I go to 95S because it has loud music and no strollers or people with laptops or books at 9pm at night at a bar. I am white and have been told by blacks and whites that I look like a cop.
The demo that I have encountered at 95S is 35+yo employed black men and 40+yo black women looking to listen to R&B and have a couple of deep fried somethings and drink and dance. I find myself there midweek, maybe oldies night.
I have got the same level of shit service and have been the last served or not gotten my drink until everybody else has their drink and change in hand. It is a white black thing that you just deal with in order to see beautiful black women, with good music and cold AC.
  • Franklin Park does not have a pool table because they are afraid of fights breaking out, I asked. Minor altercations in our neighborhood often end in major shoot-outs.

And 95 South is probably one of the most univiting places I have ever been. The bartenders do not give you the time of day, and I feel like the prices are completely arbitrary. The last time I was there I walked out, after what felt like a 10 minute stare-down with the bartender.

It's a shame. It looked to be a really nice new neighborhood spot as it was being build. I'll stick to Freddy's. 3 dollar Budweiser and priceless conversation.

See, that is just total bullshit. But then, I'm not into black women, so I wouldn't put up with that crap.
  • 95 has a rodent problem. Not going back. period.

$10 cover for a bar in Prospect Heights? Damn, I didn't know that. No wonder Franklin Park is the new Bembe, or SODA!
Actually, its $10 cover for a bar in Crown Heights.

I live around the corner from 95S, and when they first opened, I went there often enough... good fried bar food. However, as time went on, I found myself being ignored byt the staff more and more and decided it wasn't worth the effort. I'm happy to keep walking to Sepia.
  • i went to 95S the first week it was open with my husband ... there were 6 people in the place (3 tables, 2 at each table). All 6 of us were white, and 4 of us were public school teachers from elsewhere in Brooklyn (i recognized 2 from the bus i take to work in the morning and 1 was telling his friend about how glad he was that it was almost vacation...plus me). I then didn't go back for a while and when I tried to, there was a velvet rope, a waiting line, loud music, and no white people. I didn't go in because I was looking for a place to sit and have conversation like I had done the previous time. FP always seems like a more chill crowd - even when there is a DJ, people sit outside or in the other part of the bar to talk. Soda (while i hate the fact they leave their HUGE furniture out on fri/sat nights when they encourage dancing) does have a sitting area on one side/outside and a dance area - maybe that's the problem at 95S. It's only loud.

It sucks that while so black local neighbors will go to a mostly white or mixed bar but so many white newer residents are unwilling to patronize black owned businesses
Travelriter, how do you know most of the black people in FP are local and not newbies themselves?

Maybe 95S carters just to old timers period.., or people with that old timer feel?
  • just a littlefood for thought. The Actual owner(not the name on the Liquor license) is the Head Drug dealer for all of Franklin ave. All the corner boys u see "posted up" btween Eastern pkwy and Pacific are part of his crew. He first opened the Barber shop across the street "Jadon's" and then as his success continued opened up 95S. He's been shot b4 right on Franklin. Soooo if ur not into Rewarding the "business" of Major Drug-dealing, maybe u would like to not give them ur hard earned legitimate money. Just a thought.
  • Ha! Vulture's a cop! Hey- do you know KWAK?!?!?

You may be a cop but I hope not Barney and Boss Hog were only characters on TV please tell me you are foolin" Thanks for really knowin' who is really running things around here. You are not the clown levitated 20ft up fighting crime from a tall trailer are you ? If it's you thanks for your keen eye from your perch.I am sure the IRS would never know that 100k a week in haircuts would be out of the norm on Franklin.

That explains the guy sitting in the back at the table getting passed cash on a regular.
  • @ vulture -- whats your basis? anything you can offer to verify/corroborate your reps? your info sounds important, but since i dont know you or your source and you are basically accusing someone of being a predicate predator, i would like know that it is more than rumor before i act on it or pass it on. tell me, whacha got?

Hey just offering a little insight, take wat u will, disregard wat u wont. His name is "Tree" he's about 7' tall w/ a slim/med build and can be seen w/ some regularity standing out front of 95S. Ask around about him, see wat u hear. Thats all.
PS: I can assure u I am not sitting in that stupid tower. lol
  • LOL @ the PS

The reward just doesnt seem worth the risk, when u can hit up any number of generic black lounges in our area.
