New York City Century

I know Duffys_Sis is doing this (she is also insane and does about a bajillion century rides a year I feel like.)
-
I'm not doing anything nearly this active this weekend, but just wanted to acknowledge another Skins fan!
-
Wow, a Skins fan???? Cool.
-
Did you get your start packet in the mail? I didn't yet but have no clue how long it'll take to pick this up. The start is at 7am, should we leave at 5.45am or earlier?
-
I got something via email. I can't imagine I'd get anything in the regular mail since I only signed up yesterday or the day before.
I did this a few years ago and I remember I got there after the start and it was no problem. I wasn't even aware there was a 5:45 in the morning now. How about 6 or 6:15? That 5 is a psychological barrier for me.
By the way, do you know what stop is closest to the start? -
So many options. I guess the D is our best bet though, reliable and what not.
We have bikes. so proximity to the stop is not that important considering we'll be riding around for hours on end after the official start.
6am? -
we can ride to Pacific street and take the D there. Don't want to transfer with a bike. what stop is it on the D line in Manhattan?
-
I'm doing the ride! Still undecided between 35 and 55 but leaning toward 55. I think I'll take the 2 or 4 train, since I'm coming from PH. Don't really want to ride over to Pacific St in the dark. Maybe we can meet up at the start?
-
Sounds good. The only reason I'm against the 2 or 4 is because I find them unreliable, and they have too many stops.
J.O. - 110th Street.

If you can meet at the subway, it's going to be easier as the start is going to be a zoo. But if you're not comfortable riding in the dark, you shouldn't. Is it dark that early? I must admit I'm never up that early.
Wait, I just checked the subway map. It might be faster to take the A,C. Is that easier for you guys if we took the F to Jay street and took the A or C? I know what I said about transfers, but that's right across the platform. It looks like it would have a lot fewer stops, if I'm reading the map correctly. Thoughts? -
I'm sticking to the D. I just don't trust the other trains. It's a Sunday, there will be construction and what not. Plus the D is right by me.
-
-
That's fine by me. You want to meet at the D platform at 6:15?
-
6 for me, I'm meeting up with a friend in Manhattan also, so i need to keep it on the earlier side.
-
Then 6 it is. I've done this before by myself and it just isn't as much fun. I'll look for you on the platform.
-
It seems both the 2/3 and 4 run local at that hour, and that would just be excruciating, so I will try to join you on the D. It is dark that early and I don't have a light, which is why I didn't want to ride over there. But maybe I'll ride on the sidewalk, or connect from the 2/3. So I'll look for you on the platform at 6am. Should be fun! (Obviously, if I'm not there, go ahead and leave without me--I've probably been arrested for riding on the sidewalk
) -
Pm me for phone numbers if you're interested. We can wait if it's a few minutes. Probably makes sense to meet outside the subway stop so we still have reception. Otherwise we should be easy to spot - 2 people with bikes at that hour...
-
Yes, good thinking. How about we meet at the elevator outside? At 4th and Atl/Pac? Or we can just call each other and find each other.
-
That's a good spot. 6am folks. 2 others from this board who already have their numbers think we'll be quite late...
-
They think an hour isn't enough time to get there, or they don't think we'll actually leave at 6?
I can do 5:45, but we'd have to decide soon because I'm going to bed shortly! -
The issue is that we (or at least I) don't have the starter packet yet. Evidently there'll be a long line to get it when we arrive which may delay our start.
It'll be fine...so what, we'll be slower than the rest. -
I don't have it, either. I think we'll be fine. The email I got yesterday said the start may be delayed anyway if it's still raining and/or wet because it'll take them longer to set up.
See you guys tomorrow!
