Joining the laptop mafia
I've been toiling away on my book in my apartment but have decided to join the locals who plug in their laptop at a coffehouse and take up space and use the free wireless for hours on end. I wrote at Gorilla today but would like to try somewhere else. Ideally I'd like to drink wine while I write rather than coffee, which makes me jumpy. Any suggestions in the north or center slope? Does Mule on 4th Ave serve booze?

I go to cocoa bar across the street from me just for that reason, good wine and good wifi. they have a nice yard too. It's on 7th avenue btw. 3rd and 4th.

i take my broadband with me. wirless data service ftw! its a bit slower than home dsl line but it does its job. i dont need to find a joint to stake out to use their free wifi.

Yeah, which places have free WiFi in the slope? Also, when's the park going to get it? End of summer? There was an article on that a while back. I am hoping, since I live across the street, I'll be able to tap in from my apartment. sweet!

I hope the park never gets it - does every public place need to have wireless internet access?

But, but, but... it's THE FUTURE! I'm sure that this'll bring us one step closer to personal jetpacks and entire meals in tablet form (non-GM, natch). -

Good point, and not every public place should have electricty or running water... paved roads, police and fire coverage...
Personally, I can't see any reason why not to have it.

went to Cocoa Bar. Bought their sugar-free almond chocolates (called Love Bites). Have been on the toilet with explosive diarrhea ever since, and that was about 15 hours ago. Also feel nauseous and weak.

now that's TMI.
I feel bad that I suggested them to you now. I'll have to make it up to you. Feel better. -
I call that "assplotions". You have to say it with a Ricky Ricardo accent for full effect.
(full disclosure: I'm half-Cuban, so I feel I can make fun of "my own"). -
Oh, you can also call them "Evacuation Almonds" if you like.
I won't even charge you a copyright fee

me too! half-Cuban, I mean. hilarious!

and I find sugar free chocolate is basically the grodiest thing ever - it usually has these added ...lactose thingamabobs that speed up the poo-system. I don't eat the stuff, especially once I read the back of a bar of fancy sugar-free chocolate. especially being mildly lactose intolerant - anything with added lactose sounds like the worst idea evar. -

not your fault at all! The things I ate contained a sugar substitute called malitol. I Googled it and apparently its known for effing up your stomach How would you have known though? I'm still going bck to the Cocoa Bar - if only so I can sit on their toilet all day for a change of scene. I will make sure to order chocolate with REAL SUGAR next time!

tsk* tsk* tsk*
your sphincter has learned a most unpleasant truth
artificial sugar is caca
so to speak
you're always better off having the real thing
but not corn syrup tho'
worse than poison.
it is poison -

Well, it's not the worst public bathroom (that would be Penn Station 1985). I've never really tried any artificial sugar myself, it just seems like a bad idea.
