Thank You George Bush — Brooklynian

Thank You George Bush

Now that 9/11 is a few days behind us, I just want to openly thank President George W. Bush for keeping the United States safe. Yes, I disagree with many of his social policies, but thank you President Bush for keeping us safe.

  • id throw my shoes & your shoes Scarlett directly at him !!

but my pin point accuracy will knock his ass out !
  • George W. Bush kept us safe - thank you President Bush.
  • Yeah, you said that already. Now back to the game!
  • You can keep saying that as much as you want, but it doesn't make it true.

President Bush kept our families safe. I respect him and thank him for that.

Man, I love this episode of the Simpsons. A classic. I also appreciate the hard work of President Bush. With all of his faults, President Bush stepped up when it came to national security.
  • OK. You can stop repeating yourself. Vidro, totally worthy contribution. Thread should be locked after that clip.

This link offers a long list of the hard work by the Bush administration in protecting America.

  • Feel free to respect and thank whomever you'd like.

Stating your belief as pure, objective reality is, however, quite annoying.

My opinion is that, in the grand scheme of things, he has made us less safe.

My opinion. Simply that. I did not start a thread entitled F@#!K You President Bush, we'll all die due to your rank stupidity, ill-preparedness, and grim determination to dismantle everything our country stands for.
  • George did not save us from trolls. Starve them.

My opinion is that there are a lot of people who would like to do harm to America, and Bush worked really hard at making that difficult for them. Do you really think that President Bush was determined to "dismantle everything our country stands for"? To be honest, it is hard to take your seriously when you say things like that. You are making President Bush into some all-evil entity, and frankly, I find that offensive. The United States stands for many fine things, including diversity and respecting differences.

Aaand with that, I'm taking whynot_31's advice.

I need to be better at not getting sucked into this ridiculousness.
  • F.U. GWB for making us LESS safe by:

    1. Allowing 9/11 to happen in the first place.
    2. Failing to finish the job in Afghanistan.
    3. Starting a useless war in another country in the middle east, ensuring another generation of justifiably pissed off radicals.
    4. Doing nothing about our dependence on oil, which funds hard-line regimes throughout the region.
    5. Painting the conflict as a clash of good and evil, rather than the complex web of groups and interests that it actually is, ensuring that we yet again fail to grasp (and take advantage of) the complexities of the region.
    6. Actually using the word crusade. Really not the first choice in the world of diplomacy.
    7. Allowing a place like Abu Ghraib to exist, pissing off the portion of the Muslim world that wasn't already pissed off.
    8. Smashing our values by torturing prisoners, getting little or nothing in return, and finally pissing off the last fifteen people in the Middle East who never heard of the war in Iraq or Abu Ghraib.
    9. Treating our allies like crap whenever they disagreed with us.

    I'm sure there's more...

Well, for the record, there is nothing ridiculous in thanking President Bush for one of things he did right – national security.
  • this belongs on the Brooklyn Politics board (where it will be safe from anyone ever having to read it)
  • I also can't believe BigGuy took the bait. This is the most obvious troll post in the history of Brooklynian.

Okay, now we got some meat!

You bring up some good points, and some not so good points, but results is what counts, in my opinion. We haven't been hit hard since 9/11, that says a lot.

    1. Well, that is like blaming Clinton. This may be your worst argument and is truly offensive.
    2. Agreed, he listened to Cheney when he should have finished the job. This may have been the single worst decision Bush made in 8 years.
    3. Don't agree - covered in other threads.
    4. Nor will Obama.
    5. I disagree. Sure, it is complex, but there remains a good versus bad element that many folks don't get. Some people are just terrorists, and many libs don't get that.
    6. Crusade was a bad choice of words, and to his credit, President Bush recognized that.
    7. I don't agree. Worrying about the Arab or Muslim street is the President's problem. Protecting American's is.
    8. Torture, interesting topic and a big topic. Everyone defines torture differently.
    9. Our allies treated us like crap, the way of the world.

A lot, huh. How many, do you suppose? Could you put a number on it? Where do these people come from? When you say 'harm', are you only thinking about random acts of violence against civilians, or would a thinly disguised agricultural subsidy or trade barrier that quietly costs Americans their livelihoods count? What about a US mining company poisoning a local water supply with heavy metals while a fund-starved EPA turns the other way; are you figuring that into the literal harming of America that Bush was protecting us from?

I only stay around for you. You're my favorite comedian.

Yea, I think it was that big smirking face at the top lol. Also, misinformation can become accepted if repeated often enough and not challenged. See Fox News.

Well, it is widely known that the folks fighting the US in Iraq are coming in from all over the world, even the US. As far as a number goes, no idea. Do you have an idea? The water supply poisoning is interesting. Has the Obama administration and the democratic house and senate done anything about this since coming into power?
  • I'm fine with this post being in Brooklyn Politics. Have it out, guys. Go wild.

Fox News, is that the best you got?

I don't know much about Fox News, I am a public radio kind of a guy.
  • at this point in Bush's first term we had already had the worst terrorist attack on american soil ever.

looks like Obama is off to a better start.

    thanks Barack.
