Anyone know how Habana Outpost pays the bills during the winter months? They're not open but one has to assume they're still liable for the rent. Anyone have the inside info on this?

Obviously the owner(s) have some money stashed and/or have other investments going on.
FYI, the owner owns Cafe Habana in Soho.
***So did the grand re-opening happen? It didn't look like it when I rode by there on Monday. -
yeah it was on Saturday. It looked pretty crowded when I walked by, but most people probably straggled in from the street fair by Atlantic.
-
My boyfriend and I scoped it out on Saturday afternoon, hoping to get some Cuban for lunch, but were told there would be a delay in opening, about a half hour. We came back over an hour later, and were told the same thing, except now they were another hour from serving food. Kind of a disappointment, considering they had - how long? - to prepare for this one day, but maybe there were things beyond their control. We lunched at Cafe Lafayette instead, next door, and it was pretty good, but we'll be back for Habana soon enough.

Yeah, I'm well aware of the Soho place as well. So, you're saying they just eat the cost of the rent during the winter months, huh? That seems tremendously inefficient. There's gotta be a more profitable way to swing that, no? -

maybe you should swing by and ASK them that one day.escap wrote: [quote=heynow][quote=escap]Anyone know how Habana Outpost pays the bills during the winter months? They're not open but one has to assume they're still liable for the rent. Anyone have the inside info on this?

Hmmm, not sure if I somehow offended you along the way. I was merely curious. I'd be happy to ask them myself the next time I'm there, which will most likely be this weekend. Thanks anyway. -
my guess is that they recoup some of their rent by charging rent to the various cars that park inside their corner lot.
just an idea, but i doubt it, since i think they know those ppl that park their dodge magnums there. -
They may just rent it for the summer. It's not unheard of. Kind of like those stores that sell halloween or X-mas stuff, they just rent for a couple of months.
-
or the rent they pay for the rest of the year does well with uncle sam-- you know, reduces their taxable income...and they only accept cash too, so there could be some advantages being worked here..

They could be making a good amount of money off of the ridiculous booth fees they charge vendors for the weekends. -
How ridiculous are they?
-
So I asked. The answer is, the owner of Habana Outpost owns the building outright. Hence, no rent!
And apparently they're planning on staying open year round this winter, indoors. -
did anyone make it to Habana Outpost last weekend... I stopped by Friday and it was poppin...
-
I was there on Saturday. I brought my little nephew and we had a good time. It was a beautiful day!! We enjoyed iced-tea and lemonade, and made a magnet out of a recycled bottle cap.

They own the building, no rent to pay, it stays open for updates repairs, ad it acts as the central office for the many business' and non profits associated with the "Habana Factory" the umbrella under which all Habana related things operate.
