I called super shuttle and they don't go. Any one know of a service? Bag too heavy to take subway and cab too pricey

  • Their website lists

ETS Air Shuttle Shared Door-to-door service
    (718) 221-5341

    Never heard of them myself

  • I'm almost 100% positive there isn't an economical way to get car/shuttle transport to newark.
  • There is likely a shuttle from the Brooklyn Marriott.

    Nope:

From New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge to Newark - EWR
    * Phone: 1 973 961 6600
    * Hotel direction: 16 miles SW
    * Driving Directions: NJ Turnpike to Holland Tunnel(EXit 14C). Exit onto Canal Street East to Manhattan Bridge. Exit onto Flatbush avenue Extension. Right turn onto Tillary Street. Left turn onto Adams Street. Proceed to second light. Hotel is on left.
    * This hotel does not provide shuttle service.
    * Estimated taxi fare: 65.00 USD (one way)
  • I've taken Transbridge Bus ... but you have to get to Port Authority, so I guess that doesn't help too much..
  • If you're really being cheap, you can do 2/3 to PATH to Newark Penn Station. From there you can hop an NJ Transit Train to the AirTrain, or you can take a public bus directly to Newark. Did it once and personally I wouldn't do it again--too many legs in that journey.

Next time I go to Newark I'm doing 2/3 to Penn to NJ Transit to the AirTrain.

Just curious: how much would a car service charge you, $40?
  • Its around $75-$80 to get to newark via car or cab
  • Consider shipping your baggage via UPS or Fed Ed and taking public transportation to EWR,

The savings in car fare to EWR and the baggage check fee should pay for it.

I figure EWR has to be $50 cheaper than a flight from LGA or JFK to make it worthwhile

Or have a direct flight, while the flights from JFK or LGA all require layovers. I just encountered this for a flight I'm taking this weekend.
  • Why not take a $18 car service ride to Penn Station, and then the $12 train ride to the airport? Still saves $$.....
  • I avoid flights through EWR just b/c of this hassle. Even if you're willing to pay the car cost to get there from here, it's not super fast and some car services aren't keen on going there anyway.

The OP said public transit is out b/c bags are too heavy, which might also mean they will be costly to ship.
  • just for comparison the ETS Air Shuttle Shared Door-to-door service quoted $45 + tip.

Eastern said $50 + toll (which they said was $10, it's $8, $6 off peak with EZ PASS) but maybe they take the turnpike instead of 1&9
  • I like the bus to EWR from Bryant Park, and take the F. It can be a hassle to drag bags on subway, but if you're attractive enough someone will always help, and the bus is cheap and super easy.
  • I would stick with flying from and to LGA and JFK. The money and time you spend getting to EWR negates any savings on the airline ticket.

It could be worth it if flying out of EWR means a direct, non-stop flight to where you're going and you need to be on time. Eliminating as many connections as possible helps.

How does EWR handle busy travel days? I've had some extremely unacceptable experiences at LGA near Christmas and if EWR is better, I would gladly go there instead.
  • Like others have written, there have been times when a direct flight is available from EWR but not from LGA or JFK. That's the only reason I would go down there, even with the schlepp, it's worth it for that.

Plus, international flights are MUCH easier out of EWR. Customs at JFK is horrible
  • Unless you're flying to Hawaii, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur non-stop, EWR is just a parking lot. It's an LGA and a half sized airport with JFK sized interior stuffed in. You're waiting at least forty minutes after push back to take-off, and at least thirty minutes on the apron to find a gate after landing...24/7/365. At least with JFK and sometimes LGA, there's a window during the afternoon where it's not that busy and you're able to take-off and land toot-sweet. To me, both customs in EWR and JFK is lousy. We shall see if this is remedied when the Port Authority has Stewart Airport fixed up as a reliever.
  • ^ I usually take 1-2 international trip/year + 6-10 domestic trips (when working) and I'd still take EWR over LGA any day for any reason.
