The weather is supposed to be good again this weekend. Anyone interested in riding to Governor’s island this Sunday? We can meet at Grand Army Plaza and ride to Fulton Ferry to catch the boat. So who’s game?

  • mrs why and I might be in.
  • I was going to post something about a trip to Sandy Hook (ferry ride, bike trip around the peninsula, lunch at a Fish restaurant...) but I was waiting for the weather to get better first. Also, forgot about this....sorry!

Yep, I'd be in for it.
  • Also regarding Gov's Island on Sunday, for the slackers, this is a maximum of 10 miles. 2-4 miles to the ferry (which is free), 2 miles around the island tops, and back. You basically have no excuse.
  • I'm leaving town on Sunday morning, so I'm out.
  • A friend went to GI last weekend and said to be prepared for a long wait (but worth it).
  • A long wait for what?
  • fyi since I don't see it mentioned here...there's a (modern) Dutch festival at Gov Island (last weekend and this weekend), so more of a reason to go (and more of a wait for the ferry)
  • we had no wait for the ferry when we went about 1 month ago.

    ...we left from Brooklyn
  • I went there on the 4th of July and had no probs with the ferry.
  • I think the nice weather plus the fact that it's almost the end of the season for the island might mean more crowds now.
  • This is New York City. Expect crowds where ever you go - always. There's plenty of room to spread out on the island it will be fine. And my friend Giedre is coming too. She's Lithuanian.
  • Mrs. why points out that she is starving for Rosh Hashanah, she will not be joining us biking.

Corrected: Mrs Why simply stated that she could not attend due to Rosh Hashanah.
  • Tell her that I biked to Riis Island last year when I was doing the Lemonade Diet. I hadn't eaten in 9 days...

You drank lemonade for 9 days? WTF?
  • Master Cleanser. Lemon juice w/ maple syrup and cayenne pepper. If you really want to get to know yourself very well from the inside out... :-)

oh, I tried that once. Lasted about 4 hours.
  • It's actually really easy (take it from someone who has no will power whatsoever). Breaking it after a few days is the hard part.
  • This would be fun. Not sure if I can make it. Will let you know.

I assume Nomad is referring to the bike ride, not Christina's crazy lemonade diet.

Ferry?? We don't need no stinkin' ferry!! ;-)

  • Yo Jude (that's short for Jewish dude) you don't starve on Rosh Hashana, that's Yom Kippur.

Can you tell that I married a nice Irish goy? Though I had hoped after 9 years, he might have caught on.
  • ouch, a deserved on line beat down from the Mrs. and Julius.
  • I prefer to cleanse my body with mint chocolate chip ice cream. Though brain freeze from an enema is not very pleasant.

I lasted 4 hours as well, Flex. Came time for lunch? Fuck spicy lemonade! Christina has will of steel, don't let her fool you...

  • OK, so let's nail this thing down. How about if we meet at Grand Army Plaza at noon and then bike to the ferry? Is that time good? Any suggestions?
  • noon works, are we talking about Sat or Sunday?

    who else is in?
