Subject: Tempo to become new chinese joint from owners of Stone Park
In today's NY Post:
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/the_two_joshes_restaurant_stone_m57dA51B7c6o7WllAKVXNN -
that's cool.
there really isn't any great chinese in park slope.
mr. wonton is pretty good. -
Red Hot is great
-
i think red hot is fair.
would never call it great, though.
just ok, edible, nothing special chinese.
maybe this will be a little something better? who knows... -
Unfortunately I think Red Hot has gone downhill since it reopened.
I know the chef at Stone Park had been wanting to do this - I'll be glad to see a good Chinese restaurant on 5th -
This news blows my mind. I grew up with food from the Single Pebble and it is Chinese food on a totally different scale. Mr Wonton, Red Hot and Hunan Delight are all good americanized chinese food. We're talking about good accessible chinese chinese food.
So stinkin excited. -
This is awesome. I have been waiting for a smart business person to open a good Chinese restaurant in Park Slope... If the food is indeed good and affordable, I think they'll do a great business, because the market is sorely lacking.
-
dim sum, pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.
That being said, I heart Mr. Wonton. -
new2hood:
luckily if you're in north slope (which i am) mr. wonton is the best around, and they are consistent.
will be great to have a place down on 5th avenue, but for my regular chinese fixes, mr. wonton will still probably be my go to place...they are really great people who run that joint. -
I hope this doesn't effect Sun Luck's business. That place is far and away my favorite Chinese place in the neighborhood. That roast BBQ pork is amazing.

Hunan Delight on 6th Avenue and Red Hot on 7th Avenue are good.

If you want Chinese Chinese food, leave Park Slope and go to Pacificana at 813 55th Street and 8th Avenue or New Star Seafood Restaurant (Wing Shing) at 1217 Avenue U in Brooklyn.

Pacificana has gone way down in quality. The kitchen food and dim sum are horrid. You're better off going to the place on 65th & 8th Ave. for sim sum.

which place is that? I've been to Pacificana a few times, but am looking for other Brooklyn dim sum places (damn, I'm getting hungry) -
I find it actually easier to get on the F to get to the Manhattan Chinatown. We usually go to Dim Sum Go Go or Chatham Sq. It's much better when you can order off a sheet of paper so the dim sum is made fresh to order.
The sad truth is the Chinese food scene in NYC is way behind the west coast. -
i guess we don't really eat chinese food in Park Slope anyway, we go to Brooklyn Chinatown. but, it would be great if this new place had dim sum.
-
...and no valet parking. Please...
-
There's Asia Park (Park Asia) in Sunset Park...dim sum there is good, and it's a little less raucous than Pacificana.

thanks...is it cart dim sum? -

You need to check out the Flushing Mall.

I agree -- Flushing does some of the better Chinese restaurants in the city. I definitely would go there for Taiwanese food over Manhattan.
but I still miss the dim sum scene in LA. In general the service and dim sum quality, variety, and creativity are just a step above. Also I just get driven to places there when I visit CA. Here in NYC I don't even have a car so it's a hassle for me to trek all the way to Flushing... -
So is this NEW chinese place gonna have take out?

Yes -- that place is a trip...a good trip. -
I was at Stone Park last night - asked about the Chinese restaurant in the old Tempo space - they tried but it didn't work out. They think the former owner of Cucina got the space.
-
^ interesting. The old Cucina was good. I remember them when they were the only "nice" restaurant on 5th Ave. I wish they'd bring back Mike & Tony's.
-
Didn't the original Cucina live in that Tempo space? Would be cool if it were to re-open in the same spot.

So they're not opening the new place at all? If so, that's a real shame. Such a need for decent Chinese food in the Slope. -

Yes, it was Cucina before it was Tempo. -
flexichick, I missed your question a while back...Asia Park is in fact cart dim sum. It's pretty good. If you go on Saturday, there's usually not a wait.
