RANT: Adverts covering up post text — Brooklynian

RANT: Adverts covering up post text

How does one (re)move the adverts on the right-hand side of the page in order to be able to read entire message instead of just the words that appear on the left-hand side of the page?

ONE Brooklyn Bridge Park is of particular annoyance in this case.

Thanks!

  • Hi JLOM,

I'm not seeing this problem - can you provide a specific link to the page that is broken?

    Thanks!
  • Specifically, it's Jeffrey's Super Happy Gentriconfrontation Quiz (i need to know who owns the puffer fish! ; ), but it seems to be a recurring problem I've noticed over the past few months I've been visiting here.

    Thank you for your help!
  • I run safari and have had the same problem.

The ads on the right often obstruct the edit tab. ...which means I can't make my posts brilliant. (yea, that's the reason)

I looked at that post in Safari and don't see the problem still, sorry!

Possibly Carnivore's image was breaking the page but has been fixed? Do you still see the problem?

If so, what version of safari are you using?
  • I think they are talking about this. I use mozilla firefox latest version on a mac and get it all the time too.

Seems like the frame for the ads overlap the content.

    image
  • exactly. it is occuring on the Cafe Grumpy (park slope thread) presently
  • It's doing it on this thread, as well. Your (DH) post is cut off by the blue google box advertizing tutors and stomach/gastro doctors...

It's on the left-hand side when one tries to make a new post, as Mamacita was able to show us, but it's on the right side when one is trying to read someone else's post.

I apologize for my lack of computer knowledge, but I don't even know what kind of operating system I am using. I'm at work and it's a pc, but it happens at home too and that's a Mac with an old version of Safari.
  • Seeing we are already going there. It seems in general the ads are locked on to a certain width and height (frame) and the content is accommodating that by being thinner or getting over lapped. If I make the window smaller the ads don't get cut off they just force the content to accommodate by being squished.

as you can see it's almost all ad and a thin verticle line of text.
  • i noticed this on my work computer the other day (PC running IE, which sucks, by the way). window was already at full size (on a normal flat screen monitor).
  • 1. The ad overlap on the posting page is fixed.
    2. Mamacita I don't understand what you mean by a thin line of text and a big ad. You posted a link to the search page. The screenshot you posted shows a search results page that is at least half the width of the screen.
    3. If you clicked-and-expanded Mamacita's giant screenshot on this page, that is the reason why the ads overlap the text. That is a "feature" we added so you could post big images.

I will now resize Mamacita's screenshot so you can see what I mean. You will no longer have the overlap. If you do, click Refresh and it will go away.
  • If anyone's still experiencing issues with this post or the following two posts, please feel free to PM me so I can fix it for you:

  • Switch to firefox with adblock plus ya luddite, and lose the aol email address while you're at it.
  • i wish i could have FF at work. it gets automatically wiped if i download it.

    What is ya luddite?
What is wrong with aol email addresses?
  • I believe UF meant, "Switch to firefox with adblock plus, ya Luddite," but perhaps my belief in the usefulness of commas separating nouns of direct address is old-fashioned.... ;)
  • But if you switch to FF and use adblock plus, you can't see and click on the ads that help keep DH alive and kickin'!
  • If you love brooklnian click on some ads!
  • So, uh, who's D3xt3r?
