STORAGE!! blah! — Brooklynian

STORAGE!! blah!

yes, I ran a search and found two tongue-in-cheek responses and one response reco'ing a company that is expensive but maybe ok.

so here's the question: does anyone store stuff (maybe around here, like the place at underhill/washington and atlantic) somewhere that they're satisfied with?

I, sadly, have a kitten. and several antique Turkish rugs that I just paid a F**kload of money to clean, fix, etc. I want to store these suckers somewhere that the kitten doesn't have access to. thoughts?

thanks.

  • advice not about storages but about selling. while my customers sometimes store their things for years and years. cost about the same as the item they are storing. might want to sell and save the storage fee's.

not for me. these things are somewhat priceless antiques. I'm waiting a few years until my kitten stops assuming anything knitted is worth shredding - when she becomes a "horray! wool rug to sleep on" cat. :) and, at $30/month or however much storage costs these days, the monthly cost comes nowhere near what I paid to purchase or restore these gems, much less their actual value. I just want a place that has decent policies, good insurance, and sprinklers.
  • Try Moishe's by the Navy Yard . They'll only insure up to $25K though.
  • try my apt for free baby.... :D
  • just declaw the cat...
  • We used Brothers on Atlantic for storage and while they were ok it was very expensive. Did you check with that other storage space on Atlantic (I think between Carlton and Vanderbilt)? There are a bunch of small little storage trailers near Lowes but I am not sure how much they run. My tenants are storing their furniture at the storage place on 4th Ave and 39th Street (5x8 room) for about $100 a month. My mom used that PODS company (where they bring you a storage container, you fill it and then they pick it up and store it) and she swears by them and I have seen them advertise here recently. You are also more than welcome to store them in my attic :)

wow, thanks! I may take you up on the attic!:wink:
  • I know this is a little off-topic, but did you happen to have your rugs cleaned and fixed up somewhere in the area? I have a couple of rugs that are in real need of help, but I've never bothered to look into this before. Thanks.
