Shooting in Park
Does anyone else have any more information about the shooting that took place in Sunset Park recently. Two men were killed, one shot in the head, the other in the chest. Both were killed in daylight. I also heard it may be gang related. I was not aware there were gangs in this area. I live close to the park and always felt this was a safe family neighborhood.

There are gangs in Sunset Park. There have been other shootings that happened in the afternoon in that area.

It happened at 8:30 PM by the basketball courts. It is probably gang related, but possibly gambling related (or both!). Sunset is pretty safe comparatively, but it has always had several gangs that call the park and certain blocks their own.
51st Street recently had a shooting that was gang related; 5th Avenue had a homicide that could have been (Tacos 2000) in 2008. There are several others in the last few that have been basically ignored, probably due to gang involvement.
Safe is relative anywhere. -
Sunset Park- the park especially use to be one of the toughest places in the early '90s.
It was everything gang related. Stabbings, shootings, fights. etc.
As a whole Sunset has changed for the better.
It wasn't always that way though. -
I just read the article. It is so sad they were all so freaken young. I hope the community does not stop going to the park. I have noticed more police in the park, but then I had always seen a large police presence so I don't see how they missed all of this. They need to get tougher on these gangs. Maybe if they convicted and serve time, they are not allowed to return to the site of their crime like a restraining order or something that sevres the community.

From what I heard on the brooklyn news on cable, it was 4am and 2 men were shot, 1 died and it was gang related. there are gangs in the area.
In sunset park and near where I live in Greenwood hights, 31st and 4ave. in the apartment house.
