Trash, or the trash that lives near me. — Brooklynian

Trash, or the trash that lives near me.

Every night or now day, some total assh*le, has been leaving trash at my front gate or the side of my house. The other day I came home from work and there was a $100 ticket for "loose wood that could be easily scattered". ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!! Next day I come home.... a crappy partical board dresser in pieces at my front gate...... Today, I get home,,,, A ticket from the the officer for more scattered garbage.

Nonight, I decide to leave CH and have dinner, I get home, more garbage at my gate. My two neighbors are committed to help out with this and encourage me to not get discouraged by this, but....

$200 dollars in fines?

I wish they would patrol the streets for crime and drugs that well.

That would make me want to do violent things...
  • happen to my place alot. folks love to throw trahs infront of peoples homes. thank god for the contractors. they are there early and i havent had any garbage for like months.

once they finish i'm gonna put up cameras and get those punks. i got way too many tickets blah.

you should put a camera too. to see whos doing it and show it to the them it isnt you.

Yes, the same thing happens in front of our house. I have also been threatened with a ticket for the trash that blows in front of my house, even after we have cleaned it up twice in a given day.
  • Couple of tips. First of all, try to talk to the sanitation cops. My neighbor had a problem with the kids on the block hanging out in front of his house and dropping trash around the tree. He got a $200 ticket, but the sanitation officer was nice enough to tell him exactly what days and times she came through the block so that he would be able to do a quick check to make sure everything was okay.

Second, go to the ECB and protest the tickets. You should be able to get something off especially if you can convinve the ALJ that you have never had any issues before and are the victim. I've had to do this a number of times because I get violations for a building on a street with the same name but different suffix (Avenue vs. Place). Once I had the entire ticket thrown out, the other times they've knocked down the cost substantally.

Armchair's suggestion about a camera is also good. If you don't think you can swing the cost, be aware that some of the security places sell phony cameras with the red lights that are supposed to be just for deterent purposes.

If none of that works, I know a homeless guy who will sweep in front of your house and clean up the trash on a regular basis. It sounds like a joke, but he's come through for me on number of occasions when I just haven't had the time to get to the sidewalk.
  • AARCGHH!! That last post was me :)

That happens to our building a lot because we are on the end of the block near a take out restaurant and everyone thinks it's cool to just dump their half eaten plate in front of the building.

I have had the same issue, but I have had more of a problem with the bums opening the trash at night and leaving the place a total mess.

However after a couple of raving mad screaming fits in my pj's at the guys and giving them trash bags to re-bag their mess, and they have stopped messing with our garabage.
