Yes, D'vine on 7th Ave is wonderful! Everyone should go there more to keep it open (I always feel like I'm the only one there.) They have spices by the scoop. -
so many terrific things in park slope...so little time...
i'm going to hit d'vine taste tonight and give them a little love... -

Also, price comparison wise, when I was traveling to MA frequently for work I went to Petco to buy dogfood and it was $3 higher there! The owner of the store in the hood told me that the competition here has driven down the price (which I believe based on online and burb prices) and they're making almost nothing on their bagged food. These guys are awesome, everyone around this part of the neighborhood should visit.
i actually was just saying how much i dislike that guy who runs this store is always hanging outside of it giving treats to my puppy. i am the one who decides when my dog gets a treat, and i don't appreciate him teaching her to stop at his store and strain at the leash to go in every time she passes now, even though i am sure his method is good for his business.
nycpet.com on 5th ave by president is a much better store - better prices, more selection, and it's not a problem if two people try to fit in the store at the same time. -

You think the prices are better there? The food I buy is $2 more at nycpet, and he's always asked me before giving the dog a treat... moreover I've gotten a freebie every time I've gone in there (a sample bag of food, usually, which is enough for my dog to eat for 2-3 meals) and both the older man and the teen kids that work there have always been super nice. -
1) Sterling Grain and Grape because it is crazy cheap for liquor and the cashiers always smile when they see me (how many bottles of gin is that?)
2) Slope Cellars for the super friendly and knowledgeable Ben
3) Brooklyn Bicycles on 9th street and 6th avenue for the great staff and nice atmosphere. And not being Dixon's or R&A -
Neergaard Pharmacy on 7th Ave: because I love old-school pharmacies plus they are friendly plus they have a cat on staff. I have been known to pay $20 for shampoo here.
Park Slope Copy Center: I pretty much never need copies anymore, now that we have the Internets. But they have 2 cuddly tabbies on staff, and it makes me happy every time I see them sleeping in the window.
Bark: Perfectly crispy french fries. No cats though. -
I love the Copy Center Cats! I didn't realize Neergard had a cat. I'm guessing that Bark has....wait for it....dogs :-)
-
Just in case someone does not realize it NYCPET has many locations and they are all owned by the same family. So the 7th Ave locations and 9th street store are one in the same, as far as prices and I would think level of service is the same.
Now the 9th street location has Mike... and he is very special! -
Flirt on 5th ave near...is that st marks? by gorilla.
love them. and love the things i have from them. nice little store with great dresses and shoes, and the owners are so NICE. i end up hanging out in there while the gf gets coffee, and they're always helpful and happy to talk, whether or not i'm at liberty to spend money. on one occasion, i asked about a dress i liked (but couldn't really afford just then), and when it turned out i was about to visit the city where the designer lived, the folks at flirt encouraged me to go shop the sale rack at her store. i thought that was a class move, helping me and the designer rather than pushing me to buy the dress from them. they're also friendly with encouragement and advice for the gf about her various sewing projects.
they give sewing classes and rent reasonably-priced studio time at their location in gowanus. when the gf got sick the day of a class she'd paid for, they gave us the money as credit towards anything in the store with no fuss at all.
i got this swimsuit:

Nice!

I can't see anything (using Firefox) on Sweet Tea's bathing suit post. Is it for nude sunbathing? ;-)

Probably. Those swimsuits are always free, so she didn't get that great of a deal.
P.S. they don't show up on Safari either. -
free? ha! whynot, i'll have you know that's their imperial line. they assured me tons of empresses are wearing them this season.
(but really, i don't know why it's not showing up in FF -- or why anyone uses safari.) -
Hum... took the tags off Sweet's links and they became visible but the links don't work either way. Obviously I am of no help whatsoever.. sorry guys...
-
...and now that you did that, I can't see them. weird.
-
must. resist. posting. hot. women. in. suitsuits.
then asking which one she got. -

at so it is agreed.
returning to the topic at hand, I also like Methodist's ER.
...no, I don't like going there. But back when I was having kidney stones every six months, they scored highest on the ER's surveyed.
During a 3 yr period, I surveyed: Methodist, Harlem, St. Luke's, St. Vincents, and some little community hospital in Westchester.
Hospital ERs were awarded points on the basis of:
1. Quickly giving me a non-opiate pain reliever. (Opiates make me puke).
2. Not asking me several times if I was sure it was another kidney stone.
3. Billing my insurance successfully, without having me to fight a 1k bill after the visit.
4. Not having to wait next to a gun shot (shop?) victim.
P.S. An MD finally figured out that a Rx would prevent the stone from forming. -
I'm with the D'Vine Tasters.
-
I forgot to add the place I just came back from - the Chinese massage place on 7th Ave and 16th Street. Great massages and only $55/hr

*Save on 5th / They have everything I need.
*Leopoldi's Hardware /Same reason as Save on 5th but hardware version.
*Beer Table / A Treasure in PS
*Kappa Sake House/ Same reason as Beer Table
*The Italian deli/Market on 7th Ave. Between 11th & 12th St./ Great selection
*Beer Craft/ Same reason as The Italian deli
*Romy's Nail / On 7th Ave. between 10th & 11th St.
*Union Market on 7th Ave./ Very convenient for me. -
Had to dig this thread up.
Laytners on Union. They have a good selection of basics and I usually end up finding what I hoped to find there as well as one or two things I didn't expect to find there (and thought I'd have to go to Bed Bath for). Plus the staff is always friendly.
Leopoldi's hardware on 5th Ave. I've named them before but a trip to Tarzian always reminds me why I love Leopoldi's--the service and knowledge of the staff is wonderful here and almost non-existent at Tarzian, even for basic questions. Better prices and far better service, in my experience. -
Love City Sub. Great subs, and the quality never goes down. It's about a mile and a half walk from my place and I'll go there even though Russo's is a couple of blocks away. Their subs are OK, but nothing like City Sub.
I'm also a big fan of Brooke Vacuums and Appliances on 7th. They repair vacuums. It's nice to have a place that can fix things in this age where we usually have to buy a new one of anything that doesn't work properly.
Howdy, Stranger!
