Alternate Side Double-Parking Etiquette

PHers, if you own a car and use the double-parking method of getting around alternate side parking,

WOULD YOU PLEASE LISTEN FOR PEOPLE HONKING THEIR HORNS TO GET OUT!!

You may have hemmed someone in.

And don't tell me to move before it goes into effect - Sometimes you just don't know in advance if you'll need your car.

  • I often wonder about this. If somebody needs to get out, is there anything stopping them from calling a tow truck and forcibly moving you? My understanding is that double-parking-during-streetcleaning is tolerated but still technically illegal.

Also, once I saw a note taped to a windshield: "If this car is double-parked during street cleaning and you need access to your car, please call 917-xxx-xxxx and we will come out and move it for you."

Maybe others should be encouraged to do the same? Maybe somebody can print up some dashboard placards and distribute them as a public service?
  • agreed on the note, I always put one with address and phone in the windshield, this is common courtesy.
