what is it? how much is the speed boost? how much does it cost? will it be anywhere near as fast as FIOS is supposed to be?
Cant wait to get that speed boost!
Is it in OUR area yet? -
Just for comparison, it's already offered by Cablevision (areas east of Flatbush Avenue, for example) since early May, offering speeds of up to the following:
101 Mbps downstream
15 Mbps upstream
Any word on what speeds TWC will offer (in their franchise areas)?

Time Warner Cable (Finally) Launches DOCSIS 3.0
But only in New York City, as carrier lags behind other operators...

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Time-Warner-Cable-Finally-Launches-DOCSIS-30-104626While Time Warner Cable is lagging behind other cable operators in terms of upgrading to the faster technology (largely because of limited competition in many markets), Verizon's recent contract with NYC to bring FiOS to all boroughs by 2014 apparently forced the company's hand. According to Time Warner Cable, they're now offering a 50 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream for $99.95 per month.
According to Time Warner Cable, the faster 50 Mbps tier is available starting today in Manhattan (below 79th Street), Staten Island and Queens (specifically Fresh Meadows, Forest Hills and South Flushing). According to the company, the faster speed will be available across their entire NYC service area by Spring 2010.

$99/mo
50mbits down
5mbits up
in other words, max download speed is 5 megabytes per second (depending if the website or wherever you are downloading from can go that high) It's good for bittorent or have multiple very fast downloads.
upload speed is 500 kilobytes per second.
Great for streaming stuff from your home like a slingbox
yes, TWC is behind in terms of upgrades....unfortunately with how cable is handled in general, you dont really get a choice of who you can use. -
I think this MB speed war is going the way of the mega pixel wars in cameras, getting to be meaningless, how fast can they get? How fast is the internet? How fast is the providers connection to the internet backbone?
