Ongoing Double WIndsor Awesomeness Thread

Since it is open and has a name it seems silly to keep posting in the Cake Shop naming brainstorm thread.

  • Why only positive comments?
  • because if you say something bad flexi and beave will hunt you down. And you don't want that. Well, maybe you do.
  • One of the reviewers on Yelp said that Double Windsor is going to have TVs soon, and s/he was acting like that is a good thing, even calling the current lack of TVs a "shortcoming."

My own feeling is that TVs are completely wrong for this place. I like bars where I can escape the glowing screens. Maybe I'm the only one.
  • one thing i like about Dram is that some of the tvs are in wooden cabinets that can be closed at times. That's a good feature.
  • Vidro actually wants "that." Little pervert.
  • I can do without TVs at bars (and babies...blech). I will wait until I see them. Last thing I want is another Rhythm & Booze-type place. I go to bars to get away from tvs and screaming kids

I have to get my gimpy ass back down there again and see what's going on.
  • I'm dissapointed DW [Double Windsor] doesn't have a fireplace.

I completely agree. TVs are the reason I don't go to Rhythm and Booze. R&B overall is nice: cheap drinks, friendly and has locals. The food sucks, but I just go there for the booze part. But there are too many TVs. You can't escape them. If Double Windsor gets TVs, they basically will become R&B 2.
  • It totally doesn't feel like a TV kind of joint...although I certainly plan on bringing my infant despite any glares I might get. Sorry guys.
  • i wrote the review on yelp about the tvs. i'd be horrified if this place became another r&b, i don't think the place needs like 8-9 tvs. you've got a good point about escaping the glowing screens, i don't like bars where i feel like i'm in a navy commercial. from a business standpoint i think it would be smart if there were perhaps one television and it was arranged so it wasn't the center of attention. the gate has two tvs and it is totally possible to escape their glow and i think this place has enough space where that is totally possible. if you can do both then you can cater to more people while giving them what they want and not forcing what they don't want at them. all that aside, if the place was walled with tvs it'd still be hard to deny that vanilla porter.
  • a navy commercial??/

seriously? Why would you bring a baby to a bar? Did your parents bring you to bars? Bars are for adults and for drinking. I understand that having a baby might make you NEED to drink, but hearing a crying baby while in a bar is not good.
  • yeah theres one out now, cant find it but this pic is close. it reminds me of r&b [spam link removed]
  • If your baby's first words are "Fucking HELL!" instead of Mama or Dada, you have bringing them to a bar to thank.

    It take's a special {REMOVED}--

To be fair, she premised by saying that the DW did not feel like a TV kind of joint, implying that the bar was something different than a rowdy, obscene bar.

Who, other than the moral police above, cares if a mother watching her child enjoys a glass of wine in an empty bar on a sunny afternoon?

I care. I don't want to hear screaming babies, I don't want to watch my language (read the yelp review), and I don't want a mom (or dad) plopping their kid down in diapers on the bar, a stool or a table or changing them in the bathroom. I don't want to have to maneuver around strollers or listen to baby talk. If I did, I'd go to the Tea Lounge or 100 other places where people can go with their kids (and, yes, you can get wine at Tea Lounge).

And before anybody bothers to call me a baby hater- EVERYTHING has a time and place........babies don't belong in bars. Or at fancy restaurants when you are trying to enjoy a nice meal.
  • When I'm drunk and dancing on the bar, I don't want to be worried that I'll knock little Susie's bottle over or trip over sweet Johnny's gourmet mac n' cheese.
  • Ah, The Flexi and Beaver Show; I thought you both were on in the evenings. At any rate, everything you both mentioned are valid points.

However, I'm not sure any of those scenarios apply to the poster. In fact, my sense is that she also wouldn't want her baby screaming in a bar, or attend a bar when it's busy, or change diapers on a bar table.

The scenarios you mention occur because of the actions of the parent, and not because a baby is present. Hence, it really depends on the parent. In this case, there's no reason to assume that she would be reckless with her child.

    I don't have any children, and I don't mind.
  • ^really? And you got all of this out of "although I certainly plan on bringing my infant despite any glares I might get. Sorry guys."

    Impressive (insert eye roll)
  • I'm just sayin; give the gal the benefit of the doubt.

I'm pretty bad at American Idioms, but I think the above is correctly stated.
  • Any baby I catch in a bar, I eat. Done.
  • Look, my wife and I are planning on having a drink at the DW. And guess what, our son is coming with us.

We too think babies don't belong in bars (unless you're in any other country than this one) where it's ok (Ireland, England, Italy, etc.).

Which is why we also plan on visiting the DW during non-peak hours so people like Flexi and all don't have to deal with us.

This baby-hating is juvenile. It's the fault of the parent that the baby "runs around" and "is plopped on the bar" (if that even really happens). There are those of us who respect others and understand your point.

Don't feign outrage because of this gross generalization you have in your mind about babies running rampant in bars. I've been around a long long time, and have yet to see any of the scenarios those who rant about babies describe.

    Lighten up.
  • Nyco: I'll buy you a drink when you're there
  • And I'll eat your baby! :)

It's not "baby hating". It's "inconsiderate parent hating"...and if you haven't seen the behaviour I described, then you must never go out in PS. I have seen babies ON the bar with my own eyes. Babies changed on bathroom sinks. Babies throwing food with the parents not stopping them. Again....inconsiderate PARENT hating.

Ok, so if the parents are considerate, then what the hell's the problem?

IF the parents are considerate is a HUGE if.

    What's a considerate parent? -

    - your kid cries...march them out the door IMMEDIATELY (I don't care if you are in the middle of a meal or a drink...so am I)
    - your kid should not be running around
    - your stroller should not be blocking traffic
    - your kids should not throw things, climb on the table or do anything else to disrupt other diners
    - if you need to change a diaper, do it somewhere appropriate (this does not mean bathroom sink, bar, chair or table...ick all around). I doubt they have a baby changing station at the DW

If all of that is being done consistently, I don't really have a problem with babies....but a BAR is for GROWN UPS. Seriously. We have parks, we have coffee houses, tons of family-friendly restaurants....More than most other places I have lived or visited....Why do babies need to be in bars, too?! Can't there be ONE place where you go and expect not to be with babies?

(btw, I don't think dogs should be in bars or most stores either......even though that's not a popular sentiment and even though I love dogs).

Beave will still just eat your baby. She's hungry.
  • this thread should be split off so as not to make DW guilty by association, IMO
  • I'm still not getting it…

So, you're saying that according to you my wife and I can not bring our 2 year old (who's the most behaved baby ever conceived) to the DW at noon on a Saturday for lunch (when they serve)?

Is that what you're saying? Really?

Wait,… how old are you? If you're under 25 this conversation's way over.
