I wonder if the new owners will change the paint job. It's "funny" that if you click the link to see the realtor's listing, there is no view of the front of the house. Guess that'll be a little surprise at showing.

  • I think the price is a bit high for the amount of work that place needs.
  • "Beautiful historic brownstone on tree-lined Garfield Place between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue that has been owned by the same family for over 60 years. Judging from the interior shots, no work has been done here (there are no photos of the kitchens or baths, l'll assume they're not done) so it's probably safe to assume the mechanicals, plumbing and electrical will need looking into. The floors are covered in carpet, all floors will need refinishing. If it's only cosmetics, I'd say it should sell for $1.9. If there's more to be done, I'd move down to $1.5.

  • I think the price is pretty realistic, I am sure they expect lower offers....I have been inside this house - yes, it needs work, but its big and grand and in a dynamite location.

    The price of homes has gone down. The price of plumbers, tin-knockers, electricians, materials, DOB filings, architects, MEP Engineers....has not.

    I think the house is lovely. I'd buy it in a second if I had that kind of dough. However, I wouldn't overpay for it if it does actually need all the above mentioned work.
  • I think it is priced appropriately even considering the work. There is a value to being on that side of 7th Avenue.

    Wow, 1.5 for an entire brownstone? That sounds dirt cheap, there are apartments going for that around here.

  • Brooklyn needs more pink homes. There's nothing wrong with pink. Just stay away from green homes that can clash with trees and grass.
  • Hey, I own a Landmark Building and went through such a scene with Landmarks about restoring it color-wise to an HISTORICALLY correct color. I worked for "sister" govt. agencies and did the research and came up with what were probable colors going back to 1846 (yeah it is an OLD house) and when I got approval on none of them finally gave up on a change in color. Landmarks approved painting it the same color it was which is totally not historically possible! I was infuriated but I can give it up now.

    I should search out the hisory of this house for sale and why the hell it is pink!

    I think I read once that the house is pink purely because his wife used to love pink and he did it for her and continues to do it in her memory, could be totally wrong though

    and what a crazy sloppy job they did when it was repainted...

  • Like it or hate it, I am surprised (like Veets and others) that they were able to get away with that in (what I think is) a landmarked area
  • In that movie..The Secret Life of Bees the house where the sisters live is painted that terrible pink. Of course they had no close by neighbors to offend.

    Assuming that the house is in a Landmarked District ( and I am pretty sure it is) if there are any violations, including the whacky paint job, they will come to the surface when the house is sold and either present owner or future will have to clear violations or leave money (usually an exhorbitant amount) in escrow with landmarks till the violations are removed.

    Of course with what I think is an inflated price on the house it might not be sold so easily.

    Perhaps everywhere, but certainly in PS it seems everyone thinks their house is worth more than it is actually worth.

    It was. The owner's wife was from the Caribbean and she missed the colorful houses so her husband painted the house pink for her.

    The price is 2.5, not 1.5.

    I hope the new owners change it back to it's original color. The color is pepto bismol hideous.

    That makes sense as to why the house is pink

    We were in the same quandry with Landmarks... the house was blue, a blue that was historically incorrect and with no hassle we were told we needed no clearance to repaint it the same historically incorrect color. However, to get approval on a historically correct color became a conflict. We gave up and repainted blue.
