Eyebrow Threading

Not sure if this place is new, or if I haven't noticed it (haven't been mobile enough to notice all of the changes lately), but Salon de Larue on 7th Ave (I think it's between 13-14th....address is 383) apparently does threading. The sign in the window has prices for most services but something like "as for a quote" for threading. A woman inside saw me looking at the sign and opened the door to give me a card. She said eyebrow threading was $15 (in case they are pricing by how much work/how bushy the brow is - mine aren't much work at all, just a little cleanup).

I personally think $15 is too high since there is no equipment to really buy (string is cheap) or clean. I get mine done in the city for about $7.

Still, it's nice to know there is another local option (one on 5th Ave I haven't tried yet) in case of eyebrow emergency.

You never know when you are going to have an eyebrow emergency, it can be a scary thing. Where do you go? Who do you turn to? Who will help you in your hour of need? Should you get a tweezer? Some wax strips? Or brave the world with your head held high and say, "yes, world, my eyebrows are a mess, deal with it"

To the eyebrow-aware: Know of anyplace that uses "lavender wax"? The kind that is supposed to stick to the skin less? I had that once somewhere and did much prefer it...

I might have to check out this threading, though, as I seem to have developed an acute anxiety to that moment where the waxer does the rrrrip, which makes me flinch, which makes the waxer chastise me, which gives me more anxiety... How long does it usually take to do clean-up with threading?

in and out in 5 minutes or so. It's not painless by any means (depends on the threader, but I know some people who find it too painful). I've been burned by wax before and also had the misfortune of somebody ripping of half of my eyebrow (and I've never really played around with pencil or powder enough to know how to fill it out....although I have both in my makeup drawers)

I had a pedicure there a little over a week ago. It was one of their spa pedicures but...since they don't have details of each service I was led to believe that the paraffin treatment was part of the cost...it was not and they added $10 to the price. I was thinking of going back since I will be in that neighborhood regularly but after that experience I will not go back. Careful.

^ Oh, I hate when you find out that something cost more than you were led to believe. That sucks. I haven't seen prices withheld for threading before. I understand if you are super hairy and need waxing or something that needs extra work to be charged extra, but that should be very clear up front. Otherwise, there should be a set price with an explanation of what that service includes
