Radiator Covers? — Brooklynian

Radiator Covers?

I know where I can get gorgeous custom wooden radiator covers for $400+ a pop, but I just need two as cheap as they come for my rental apartment. Anyone know where to get them? Don't really care how they look, as they will be covered by long curtains - just need to keep little hands off of them.

  • Thanks! I sent WhyNot a PM. Will go by the place near Lowes too. For some reason I assumed these things would be easier to come by.
  • Have you checked craigslist? Maybe folks are selling some there for cheap.
  • Good call on Craigslist, I found this guy:

"Do not let your child get burn from a hot radiator get a new covers. They come in all shape and size call Warren 347.683.8068 price stat 100$ "

He's coming by at 6pm tonite to measure, says they will be done in 2 - 3 days. I will report back how it all goes.
  • if you need them in 2 - 3 days, Warren is your man.

    ....I'm slower.

  • P.S. A radiator cover of about this quality and size will run you $120 plus materials (usually about $80) = $200.

    image.

    The top would be hinged

You'd need to pick out a grate you like for the top:

...and then come get it when its built.
  • Thank you, WhyNot! i am going to see how it goes tonite when Warren comes to measure...if I dont feel good about it, I will give you a shout!
  • that is a really nice radiator cover.

yup. Draw what you want it to look like, including measurements.

Then go buy some foam, and cover it with some fabric. (this part you do)
  • I can do the cushions.
I am just not that super handy with saws
  • I'm giving my recommendation for whynot_31. :D/

He just finished a couple of household things for us, including some woodworking stuff, and he's great!

There are so, so many sayings I could use here: "teach a man to fish", "once bitten twice shy", "fool me once"...

I guess I'll go with an original: "little hands heal quick from minor burns, but the lessons of the heat last a lifetime." - DR
  • So I went with Warren, who took 2 days to make my two radiator covers:

"Do not let your child get burn from a hot radiator get a new covers. They come in all shape and size call Warren 347.683.8068 price stat 100$ "

They fit very well, as he took the measurements himself. He also fit them into place to make sure the fit was precise. They are actually very cute, though quite basic, painted white. I would recommend him if you are looking for basic radiator covers quickly, at a cheap price. I paid less than $300 for the pair....by far the lowest quote I received.
