Why is Grand Army Plaza
"THE PARK THROUGHOUT IS A SINGLE WORK OF ART, AND AS SUCH,
SUBJECT TO THE PRIMARY LAW OF EVERY WORK OF ART, NAMELY,
THAT IT SHALL BE FRAMED UPON A SINGLE, NOBLE MOTIVE,
TO WHICH THE DESIGN OF ALL ITS PARTS…SHALL BE CONFLUENT.”
--- Frederick Law Olmsted
Take a walk from the Plaza to the Lincoln Memorial in the Concert Grove.
See how the Plaza and Park elements relate to the “Noble Motive.”
1865 – Park and Plaza plan
1867 – Plaza Opens
1869 – Lincoln Statue
1871 – Washington Irving Bust
1873 – John Howard Payne Bust
1874 – Concert Grove Pavilion
1889 – Cornerstone of Duncan’s Arch
One Hour – One Mile - We Walk – I Talk
Putting together this incredible local tour,
and hoping to promote the book.
Need practice and 3-6 volunteers ,
very familiar with the Park and Plaza.
You will learn many new things.
And teach me a few.

I'd like to start at the Arch at 9 Saturday morning,
and return to the Farmers Market by 10.
Any takers? Some of you don't know there
is a Lincoln statue in the Park. -
i just reread the OP, and it somehow now makes sense to me. i think it's written as a poem with random line breaks for no reason whatsoever - which was my problem in trying to figure it out. sounds interesting, but 9am on a saturday is not gonna happen...

Can't make it but wish I could!

OK...Is tomorrow, Sunday, 11am at the Arch too early?
After this hour, you will never view Grand Army Plaza the same. -
