Where can a little bi-racial girl get her hair cut/done? — Brooklynian

Where can a little bi-racial girl get her hair cut/done?

In the area? She is my niece and my sister has no idea what to do with her evergrowing hair. It definitely needs to be trimmed and styles into braids or pom-poms. Does Lulu's deal with African American hair? Anyone have any other suggestions? My sister would be forever grateful.

Thank you1

  • She will likely need to take her to the other side of Flatbush to FG, PH, CH or Bed-Stuy to find someone who knows how to trim and style her hair. If your sister has never taken her to a black salon she should know that it can be very expensive AND she will need to bring cash. The wait shouldn't be too bad since she is only getting a trim and pony tails.

Try Time Salon on Greene Ave. There is also Tendrils on on Ft. Green Place. Both deal with natural hair, while Tendrils is specifically for natural hair. I have friends who frequent both of these places and love the results.
  • The salon next to Taro Sushi on 449 or 451 Dean Street bet 5th and Flatbush seems to be popular. I've seen others on Flatbush Ave bet Prospect Pl. & Bergen as well on the east side (odd numbered addresses) of the street.
  • Also, once you have her hair cut, try Curls products on her (curls.biz). They have GREAT products for ethnic hair & a kids line.
  • I second Time Salon. I see Eric there - he's very good - great cuts. He's also very nice and will get you out of there in a respectable amount of time (unlike some of the chatterbox women).

    718-522-9030, closed Mondays.
  • biracial hair does NOT do well braided. It's not black hair.

The term bi-racial hair is silly considering black people, bi-racial or not, have hair in various textures.

Also, braids can work on any type of hair as long as the appropriate braid type for the hair texture is used.
  • True, very true Ishtar!
