Recent Time Warner broadband problems? — Brooklynian

Recent Time Warner broadband problems?

Has anyone been having problems with their Time Warner cable modem over the last few days, especially in the North Slope?

On Saturday, I returned home after a few days away, ready to check on e-mails, when I see my cable modem's out. This has happened a few times over the past year. Sometimes, it resolves itself the next morning; twice I had to call TWC, go through all the resetting procedures that ultimately don't work, make an appointment for repairs and stay home, only to have the matter resolved as a TWC server issue.

The modem wasn't back up on Sunday, so I once again called customer service -- they said there had been no reported outages -- and scheduled an appointment for this Friday, which means five days without much-needed Web access at home.

I'm just wondering if anyone else in the neighborhood has had any outages or has any advice on dealing with this monopoly/bureaucracy.

Thanks.

  • I doubt it's you, these things seem to crop up a lot in wet conditions.

Don't waste to much time with their tech-support - put a call in just in case - they will figure out the problem and fix it, but they aren't likely to admit they are having troubles.
  • TWC had a full outage in Park Slope on Thursday night/Friday morning. When we woke up on Friday, our tv and internet were out. I called TWC and their automated message said there was an outage in Park Slope. I was away this weekend, so I dont' know when it was resolved. Everything seems fine now.
  • no problem at all for me over the weekend, and i've got just about everything possible through TWC at this point.

We have had period Time Warner cable modem issues -- similar to other postings: Cable will be fine, broadband will be out -- they want to schedule appointments two weeks in advance and report no problem on their end, then treat you like an idiot when you have tried all the unplugging, replugging, lighting sage and chanting rituals of fixing something which is really their problem the whole time. Incredibly frustrating. How can we get them to change? Any word on when RCN will have service in the area?

I was having a problem with the modem going out almost every day about 2 weeks ago. Had a service tech from TW come in who gave me a new modem and said the line was fine. It went out a day later. When I called again, the tech on the phone asked if the modem was at least 3 feet away from the Cable box and TV - it was actually right on top of it (which is where the visiting tech set it!). He suggested trying to move it - which I did and haven't had trouble since.

You might want to try that?

thought it was just me. modem was on the fritz almost every day.

but it got better magically by itself.

That's EXACTLY what happens. I mean really - I can do troubleshooting without a phone in my ear.

Another standard tactic is to blame the router.

All that said, I have found the service to be reasonably reliable, but when I do have problems, I rarely bother to call their tech support anymore.
