    I heard the entire thing! Sounded like two big bangs, not the usual pops. Then a whole lot of horrified screaming. I didn't go outside, but it sounded like someone got very seriously hurt.

    On the Gothamist map, the label with "Shooting | Franklin Av X Eastern Pkwy Brooklyn, NY | 10/15/2009 12:18 a.m." is actually pointed to the intersection of Chruch and Nostrand. Does Gothamist usually have accurate labels pointing to inaccurate locations on the map?

    You know, maybe we can work out a deal betw. the residents, the hoodlums and the cops.

    We all agree that on a particular night and on a specific block, from say 9:00-9:30pm, all residents leave their homes, move their cars and the local hoods, dealers and bangers take to the streets and just have a 30 minute blazing gun battle where they settle all of their bullshit beefs once and for all.

    The cops stay away and at 9:31pm roll in with ambos to cart of the dead and wounded.

    Would that work? Just have these assholes have a full-out rumble, so that we innocents can just go back to living our lives without fear that one of us is going to catch a stray bullet?

    For the safety of all the police need to clamp on QOL crime. The bags of drugs sold at every corner need to be stopped if only for 5 minutes, It needs to happen. The benifits cards presented at the window of all area bodegas for a loosie and cash back needs to be stopped if only for 2 minutes. Half of these aholes have heaters and will shoot anybody for any reason. They may be a small part of every pos who thinks he is OG. We need some arrests maybe ne not the shooter but we have got to stop letting them walk around packin until they pull it out and shoot somebody. Bring the tower down and make an arrest or 2.

    Get a clue. Cops do take them off the streets and it does only last for 2 minutes. Someone else steps in to cover for their co-worker and the deals go on. Or. They clean it up, but eventually they get out and the only place they know is the same 'ole corner.
    Also, I guess you don't catch on the board when someone always states that there are NO COPS these days. The budget cuts have been extreme and its reflected in the increase in crime.

    Policy research has indicated there is likely no link between more cops and less crime just like the link between a weak economy and crime is pretty weak. Not sure why since I study economic policy. I've only come across these studies while researching other topics related to economic policy.

    I am F-ing sick of these thugs. Why is the tower down from st johns? It was def working. Have policemen really been cut? Thought more money was being put in, my friend is taking the test. This bullshit is getting too close. Some of the slumlords should try living in their shit, see what it is like. Maybe if they get involved the police would listen. Too bad we can't all start moving out leave thousands of apts vacant, the slummys would be left with no tennants. In Manhatten there are cops on every corner. Not where they need it.

    whatuwant is a true reflection of the hood,it's just excepted. Guns are going off everyday and there is nothing that can be done about it. As seen in all big NYPD narcotics sweeps once they have the data they can take up to a year to make an arrest. The film and snapshots of dimes and twenties being sold all over Franklin and Nostrand may lead to an arrest but we may deal with the punk and his guns for a year. The reason the police are so soft is that it's only black and brown being shot. Guy walks into a doughnut shop and shoots and 18 year old and this is the police and community version of outrage. There should be a van full of gang thugs leaving every 15 minutes. With this many shooting every other person walking down the street should be getting stopped for questioning,myself included do it like every other big city...random checkpoints. Guilty go to jail,Innocent go on their way.

    Eh...people know how the criminals are. They just refuse to talk and knowing that, why would cops make any effort beyond what is routine to get these fools off the street?
