hello, i am thinking of buying and pat on berkely between 5th and 6th avenue. any info about that block would be great (safety). it is near the playground on the corner, is that a gathering place for kids at night

Safety is fine on that block. The noise from the playground is only during the day if I recall correctly. There is a boarded up brownstone on that block that I wonder what's up with. But generally I can walk down that block at 2am and feel safe. Maybe that's just me.

Is that abandoned brownstone on Berkely or Garfield? Or are there two boarded up brownstones in the area?

I share Mamacita's opinion. This is one of the nicest blocks around. But even on the nicest blocks, always be aware of your surroundings and the people around you!

There's a boarded-up formerly-burnt-out brownstone on Berkeley (5/6), across from the schoolyard. Is there another on Garfield?

It's a great block. People hang out, but that probably makes it more safe. I walk my dog there late at night. Mos def kid noise tho - it *is* a schoolyard, and there's occasional b'ball tournaments. Playground is usually chained shut after midnite.

i always say, walk around the area and that block at all times of the day. from night to day to weekday to weekend. to get the feel of it.
