A new restaurant's coming to 293 Flatbush Avenue (on the Prospect Heights side) and, according to the folks next door at Franny's, it's slated to be a Thai place. Unlikely to make headlines but possibly good news for the local take-out crowd.

  • Hopefully its better than Udom...
  • mango thai is just a few minute walk from here on lincoln and 7th and has absolutely terrific thai food.

the last thing this area needs is more thai.

Actually, I think the area could benefit from a really good Thai place. I find all the places around here mediocre, with Mango perhaps slightly better than some of the others. As it is, I rarely eat Thai food in the neighborhood, but that would definitely change with the right place.
  • i second carnivore. i never get thai food around here because it sucks -- and i include mango, udom, lemongrass (which once upon a time used to be superb) and thai taste. udom, unfortunately, is the worst of the lot.

i love thai food and if the new place is any good welcome it.
  • Agreed. Indian and Thai... sorely lacking some goodness in this area. I've eaten at Song and thought that it was good, but that's really far away.
  • I mean...the thai isn't exactly Sriphaphai (did I even come close to the spelling there) in Woodside, but spots like Mango do make for good quality take-out, which is more that can be said for 90% of this country.

I'm fine with new thai on Flatbush. Even with other options, there's a sense of comfort in people in that immediate area having something right underneath their noses.

I actually am all for a quality coffee shop around the 6th ave./flatbush/bergen st. triangle. wanting coffee around there requires a slight detour every time. maybe the Larder can start serving Stumptown in the morning or something.... :)
  • I usually order from Song, but if this place is close to the same quality and price then I'm happy to have it. If it is just another run of the mill spot then we can add it to the batch of mediocre Indian and Asian restaurants scattered throughout Park Slope/P. Heights.
