Odd tchotchke place next to DUB — Brooklynian

Odd tchotchke place next to DUB

Anyone else really disappointed with this place?

I feel like the proprietor didn't do their homework. It's not exactly a random tchotchke store with an ATM on the sidewalk kind of neighborhood.

And nice job on the plastic, junky, store signage!*

* I need to start a company immediately that does store signs. I vow never to have them on large rectangular plastic sheets with terrible font choices and stupid photos. That's should be my mission statement on the top of my website. I'm serious. Anybody want in as partner, let's talk. Brooklyn needs a great signage company.

  • ^please go to Slope Bistro on 6th Avenue and do something with their sign.
  • The existence of that place is baffling. I wonder how long it can possibly survive.
  • I can't understand how places like this can get the financing to get started? I mean what kind of a business plan did they have??? What a waste of space.
  • There have been several similar posts about new places in this immediate area not meeting expectations (at least as far as outward appearances). Could it be that these places are trying to get in on a lower floor and hoping that they can ride the wave. Several business/real estate models have the area from Bartel Pritchard Sq south along PPW (both sides) to the cemetery west to approx 7th Ave, exploding in the near future. That would include real estate and new businesses (particularly restaurants, pubs, etc.) Thoughts?
  • interesting theory...but they could try a little harder to provide somewhat of a useful product/service in the meantime

and i HATE bad store signs/awnings...i see it as a big FU to the community

My guess is that its someone who knows or is related to the owner of the building and they got a deal on a space thats probably hard to fit a business in.

They go down to canal street, bought a bunch of crud straight of a boat that would break in a week and set up a shop to see how they could do.
My twins and i walk by their once a week and every time they are lured by the Spiderman umbrella, and I have to play the 'I dont have any money with me' game.

Not that I wish the entrepreneur ill, but, Gone by Christmas?
  • when i first saw it i was really happy to see something other than a restaurant or real estate open on 9th. i can’t remember the last time that happened. i went inside and it was very reminiscent of that old store that use to be directly next door (where the cell phone store is now). as a kid i used to go in there and buy book bags for school, yankee hats, wrist watches, and stuff like that. anyway in this new place i couldn’t find anything i wanted. maybe if i was still a kid i would have. but i am very glad to see something other than a restaurant or real estate open on 9th and i do wish them luck and hope it lasts. if theres something offensive about the sign then i really don’t see what it is
