Dishwasher repair? — Brooklynian

Dishwasher repair?

So, our Kenmore dishwasher has stopped working. Actually everything about it works, except for the "on" switch. : (

I've never had to get an appliance repaired since I moved here. Is there someone/something good in the neighborhood? Any experience or tips?

  • I have used Dial Appliance Service at 718 368-1512. They will charge $50 to come out and diagnose the problem. I have found their prices to be fair and their workers have yet to try to rip me off.
  • If you're feeling handy, you can try to order the part and replace it yourself from Sears Parts Direct.

If nothing else, it should give you some guidance about how much the part will cost, even if you call in a pro. Of course many pros will mark up the parts quite a bit.
  • Can you turn it on at all? If its plugged into a GFI outlet you might want to reset it before you call repair (I learned the hard way about this one). Otherwise I have used GE services twice and both were really good and quick.
  • Given that it's Kenmore, your best option is to call Sears. They service everything they sell. We've used their service department for appliances we've bought there and they're pretty good.
  • You might also be able to find a service number on the washer somewhere...

there is that internet thing too, don't forget about it.
  • i'd check with sears too since it's kenmore. but if you still want to try someone else, these guys worked on my fridge and were quite knowledgeable, conscientious and reasonable:

    eddie’s modern appliance repair
    718-258-1050

((and i would stay as far away as possible from super appliance repair, 718-854-572, who was clueless and actually broke more than he fixed.))
