But I have two friends with new babies who cannot get into Manhattan for a while and need a place out here. Is there any place in Brooklyn that does a good job on women's hair?

Hmmm, if they can't get to Manhattan, I wonder if they can get to Williamsburg. The first month or two with a new baby can be pretty overwhelming. -
Salon Bohemia 718-788-8750
on 7th and 14th (or 15th)
expensive but great cuts!! -

Pamona on 7th btw. 15/16 (E. side). Forgot the owner's name (Lori???), but I think a cut is around $60 and she used to be my backup plan for my fancy salon in an emergency (now my friend cuts mine for free - even better).
Small place with only one or two chairs. You're likely to have the owner answer the phone, so ask fo her......she does a good job at a fair price -
I just cut my own hair but I sort of look like an idiot.

I went to Medusa (7th between 1&2) once but was really unhappy with the haircut (choppy and lopsided) or the price. Plus the girl cutting my hair was a Red Sox fan. Reminded me of Mousey Brown in Williamsburg without the personality or quality. I'd love to find a place in the neighborhood that's good. I still high-tail it out to my old neighborhood Sunnyside, Queens for a cut because it's cheap (Hue Salon) and I have a favorite stylist there who does great work.
But it's in Sunnyside. -
I like Louis, who used to be at Medusa, but is now at Salon Harmony on 7th Ave by Flatbush.
Recently, I had a gift certificate to an expensive hair salon in Manhattan. The woman who cut my hair there said my cut (by Louis) was fine and she just trimmed it.
I've also heard good things about Elements on Fifth Ave. -
For a couple of years I went to Natasha at Medusa. I only left because I tried a guy in Manhattan on a friend's suggestion one time when she wasn't available, and I totally fell in hairdresser-love with him. Natasha's great, though, especially if you need a good cut for growing your hair out.

Of course there are good haircuts in Brooklyn-sheesh.
Salon Bohemia, Harmony pop to mind right away -

i live in prospect heights and i'll come to you or you can come to me (if you're not allergic to cats) for a haircut. i'm reasonably priced and i'll even do sliding scale based on your income. -
I highly recommend Joseph at Salon Harmony on 7th & Park. He cuts mine and my wife's hair and we both get many compliments. His cuts (and prices) are just as good as anything in Manhattan in my experience.

Le Chandelier on 5th btwn carrol and garfield or very near there. $40 cut and shampoo and friendly - will do what you ask.

oh. feck. i'm a guy
i don't know shait about girl's hair

i may have typical low male standards for haircuts, but The Park Slope Barber on 7th and 3rd has always done fine by me.

Yes! And it's always so relaxing in there. I've never seen I woman getting a haircut there though, so I'm not sure this will help kensingtonmom. -

she may like the Jerry Vail or Three Tenors albums they always have playing, plus the free assortment of booze during the holidays, though...

Subject: haircut in carroll gardens
I have been going to Oggi in Carroll Gardens for over two years and Patricia is a fantastic haircutter, stylist and colorist. I highly recommend them. -
Subject: Barber Shop
I went to the Park Slope Barber Shop on 7th Ave (between 4th and 5th streets i think...).
They were really good and prices were pretty decent.
Good conversation with the owners (the shop has been in business since 1906). -
I highly recommend Jet Set Salon on Columbia Street. Very reasonably priced ($60 for a cut, that was 2 yrs ago) and great cut. Pretty stylish/hip place but no attitude.
