Where do Park Slopers go after Park Slope?

They go to heaven.

New Haven has its share of grime. I know another place that does. It's called Brooklyn, New York.
I've been travelling to New Haven for the better part of ten years. My wife was raised there. I wholeheartedly agree with those who say that the crime factor is way overstated. I don't feel any more unsafe there than I would in any other urban area.
Actually.......overstated? by who.....a few random folks on this forum? please.
great town. great food. great surrounding areas. that's all i have to say. -

Yep, totally similar except Honoken is an eighth the size, has hardly any green space, only one gallery, no museum, hardly any live music, only a few decent restaurants, a cab won't go there for less than $50, there are only white people there and it's fairly inaccessible by public transit. PATH to connect to subway, or ferry if you can afford it, or bus to sit outside the tunnel for hours every morning. Enjoy! -

I commute to New Jersey every workday. The tunnels and bridge traffic is so severe that you could live in Hoboken and it could take an hour to get through the Lincoln tunnel by car. -
im moved to prospect heights.

"New Haven has its share of grime. I know another place that does. It's called Brooklyn, New York."
good point, but the thread here was referring to park slope. not brooklyn as a whole. no?
if that's the case, park slope is far nicer and far less crime infested than new haven.
can't compare a city like brooklyn of 2.5 million people to a place like new haven with 120,000. -
these parts are like suburbs cheap but by train its about like 40 mins to hr ride to manhattan.
brooklyn:midwood,bensonhurst, gravesend, bathbeach,
queens:sunny side, woodside, rego park, forest hills (queens has way too many neighborhoods)
these would still have significant white populations and (none black) immigrant populations. if you're looking for white places you still got alot of them.
thats one big reason white people move to the suburbs. problem with white people and suburbia, the trend has been reserving for years.
the huge push the mortgage meltdown has brought section 8 to the suburbs.
not call white folks racist
, but seems like the trend.
which reminds me of my family trying to move to those white neighborhoods, some jews and italians(still makes up of most of white brooklyn) wouldn't sell to us.
funny thing was once one family sold the next year alot of the houses had for sale signs. they thought asians would ruin the values of the houses. we used to get anonymous letters saying we are not racist, but you're making the value of the neighborhood go down etc..... and gotten dog shit bags. it normally stop after another asian family moves in. within a few years.
/shrugs. -

Sure, and microcosmically, New Haven has its charming low crime neighborhoods with beautiful architecture (East Rock) and it has its equivalents of Bed-Stuy (Newhallville). Every city in the northeast that I'm aware of is similarly balkanized. The relief is just starker in a small place like New Haven.

Can't dispute that. -
Subject: Great Possibilities for Ex- Park Slopers
Maplewood and South Orange NJ have lots of ex Park Slopers! At the Community Coalition, we are a non-profit organization of local residents who are passionate about our towns and who would welcome you to share our communities. Here’s your next move—
First: Explore our website www.twotowns.org and
click on Lifestyle, Arts, Schools and Homes to discover what makes our towns so special—to us and to visitors.
Second: Take a tour. Our residents love to show prospective residents our community features. Coalition volunteers will take you and your family on a guided one-hour tour. You’ll see our beautiful neighborhoods, lovely homes, splendid schools, the variety of worship opportunities and our spacious and plentiful parks and recreation facilities. No car? Just let us know when you’re arriving and we’ll pick you up at the NJ Transit train stations in Maplewood or South Orange. To schedule a tour, just let us know a week in advance so we can arrange a tour guide.
Third: Meet a local realtor. If you need help, we can suggest local real estate offices that are intimately familiar with our communities.
Fourth: Speak to a neighbor. Once you’ve found the home of your dreams, we’ll be delighted to introduce you to someone who lives in that area, capable of answering any questions you may have.
All right, we may as well admit it—we’re not exactly objective about our towns. Of course, we believe they’re among the best-kept secret, choice communities in the metro area, but we’re always eager to share our hometowns with expectant newcomers. -
Twotowns, you seem eager to have some Slope residents move to the towns you represent....
Can we mail you some of the residents we dislike the most? -
you know it's getting bad (read: desperate) when towns in new jersey are scanning the brooklyn message boards trying to find new residents...

it is indeed true that maplewood and south orange have attracted some ex park slopers. i know a few. literally every single one i know wishes they had never left. especially now that prices in brooklyn are down and nj is on the verge of bankruptcy. taxes there are INSANE!
to each his/her own though. -

Scarlett, they only want Slope residents.
I'm in Prospect Heights. ....you qualify though!
P.S. I mention you in my Crown Heights type-athon post. You'll like it. -
According to Mougar I live in sunset park. Street easy says I live in Windsor Terrace. I call it south slope. I am safe.

-1 for citing Mougar.

Katonah, NY. So lovely Martha Stewart wanted to name her furniture after it!
-
katonah has a population of 10,612.
or to put that in perspective, about 7,000 fewer people than who are members at the park slope food co-op.
-
maplewood, NJ
it's 50% Brooklyn expats, and on a direct line into midtown for work. -

I know quite a few people from Maplewood and it really is a beautiful town.

A number of my friends who have been priced out of Park Slope have moved to Montclair, South Orange or Maplewood. I really miss the days when we all lived within a short walk of each other.
Howdy, Stranger!
