Monday's all-day music
Subject: Monday's all-day music
Hi, Anyone know if there was a block party or something raging near the corner of New york ave and Lincoln (that's where it sounded like it was coming from). The music was so loud my windows were rattling. Now I know it was memorial day but the music went on past midnight. I called the police around 10 and they said they had sent someone over but it didn't stop till after midnight. I hope that was just a memorial day thing...Comments

Ditto on my block... but I didn't wait 'til 10pm.

From what my neighbor said --- " Welcome to Summer"
-
Yeah, my block was a little... active last year, but I'm still hopeful that it'll be a little quieter this year - a couple of buildings on my block were cleared out. Last night was stupid, though. Sorry, but if someone has the stereo blastin' in their parked car with all of the doors wide open, well, no, I'm not going to chalk that up to 'cultural differences' and let it slide. There's a difference between having a good time and being completely disfuckingcourteous to your neighbors... then again, I would wager that 2 out of 3 attendees weren't residents of the block... in any event, I don't have a problem getting to know the 311 dispatchers on a first-name basis this summer.

No way. We gotta complain. If more people complain the cops will eventually respond. This wasn't your average blaring car radio...it was LOUD ALLL DAY LONG. I think I will investigate the legal decibal levels.. There is in fact a legal limit....

just you wait till laborday weekend my pretty, and welcome to the outdoor loudness season.
-
But Labor Day is at least at the end of the summer. Once its over it goes back to the blessed quietness of fall (at least relatively)

Do you guys just call the precinct or what? I'd feel weird about dialing 911 with a noise complaint.
My street's been noisy a few nights already. So far there's only been one night that it didn't calm down after 10 or 11, so I'll deal, but I'm definitely not going to put up with music blaring at 1 or 2 in the morning. -
I called 311, after talking with some neighbors in my building, I guess that several of us did and yet they didn't send a squad car through...
-
I called the precinct and the deputy said they had already sent some one over. Obviously they didn't but I am going to keep the names of the people I speak to and turn up at the precintc meeting they have for the public.
-
They should give you a case number, too - I'll be holding on to mine for future meetings.

Sorry to hear ya'll are having the same troubles I am.
My neighbors across the street have illegal parties all the time, and I always call 311 but I don't think they ever send anyone over.
I called at 11pm Sunday night, after the music had been booming and shaking all day, and no cops. I called again at 12:30am after my earplugs fell out and I woke up, and they said they had sent a car but didn't find any problems there. I was like, are you freakin' kidding me???
So I called the 77th yesterday and left a message for Dt. McClaine, who is in charge of Community Affairs. We'll see if she calls back, if not I am going to head over there and speak with her.
I am all for people having parties and fun, but when it's 5 people sitting in lawn chairs on the sidewalk blasting music at 12:30am, noooo wayyy. And also, every weekend? Not on my watch. -
oops, forgot to log in! That last post was me.

Labor Day weekend: definitely leave town if you don't want to deal with the noise. There's a huge a parade down Eastern Parkway, an unbelieveable amount of people...
My instinct tells me that the cops don't bother dealing with noise ordinance stuff. When i lived in the midwest and called them about it, they would show up, the folks would turn it down, but as soon as the cops left, it would go back up. It's kind of a lost cause. Maybe. Some neighborhoods tend towards loud, some are less party-central.
Would they listen if tons of people called all the time? i think only if the neighborhood changed would it really change.....
Around here i think the cops only go after "bigger" issues: violent crime, etc... and otherwise don't bother with things like noise.. -

During the last few years, the cops have been really tight with security and the noise after the parade. By 8 they are forcing people off the road. If you live in the area, please walk with id with your address on it. They will arrest you (happened to two of the neighbors last year who went to the corner store during the aftermath of the parade). It's ridiculous.

So last night the illegal party space across the street from me had yet another party, outside in the driveway, with loud music. I called the precinct directly around midnight and I think they actually came by 'cause the music was shut off! What service!
The whole block thanks you, policepeople.
