Community Gardens? — Brooklynian

Community Gardens?

I'm looking for a community Garden that accepts new members in Crown Heights area. If not available gardens, I am also looking for a group of people, who are trying to find one/transform some vacant lots that are around to a garden. Thank you!

  • There is one on either Dean or St Marks between Nostrand and New York. Do a search on this board and you should be able to find some additional details including the name and number of the woman that is the caretaker.
  • other good resources include the greenbridge program at bbg, green thumb, the trust for public land, and the brooklyn queens land trust. they all work with community gardens in various ways (i'm guessing that greenbridge works with the most), so calling them might help you find one close to you.

i'm a member of the prospect heights community farm, on st marks between underhill and vandy. feel free to pm if you'd like information about our garden.
  • There is a really fantastic community garden on Bergen between Nostrand and New York Ave. The gate is almost always open if you want to stop by. Most of the plots were assigned for the summer, but I don't know how many people will be keeping up with them for the winter. There is communal composting, rainwater harvesting, picnic benches... it's a lovely spot.
  • Oh, wonderful!! Thank you for y'all!! I will definitely check the one on Nostrand/New York!
