Attn unemployed ladies...pls to come get your hair did! — Brooklynian

Attn unemployed ladies...pls to come get your hair did!

As some of you know, I am in cosmetology school. Next week I can accept models tues-fri between 12:30-1pm. This would be a free service- hair wash and blowdry. Basically we've all forgotten to take pictures of our previous models for our portfolios so now I need to cram them all into the last two weeks. The school is located on Union Sq. No cutting or chemicals, although if you're feeling adventurous we've also been doing curls/rollersets/straightening etc.

I have lots o friends who are on my Saturday call list but not so many people who can come during the week. The service will take 1-2 hours depending on hair length/texture. There is a possibility of needing models for the following week and/or other students in my class needing models as well so anyone who's interested should drop me a PM with their email address (if I don't know you also please include your hair length/texture.) I'll send emails out in the future about other availabilities for services (highlights, color, cuts, manicures, etc.)

As a sidenote for those frightened- everything is supervised by at least one instructor and there's a minimal chance of danger when it comes to washing hair and blowdrying. The school salon is actually really nice, I can promise you'll at least leave with fresh smelling, clean nice hair! Moug can attest to the salon and its lack of crappiness.

Yes! That's exactly what I'm saying. Carmen gave me +4 awesome, but it wasn't without its costs. There was a +1 douchebag penalty.
  • You need to get your grammar did!
  • BUMP
we need a perm model for THIS WEEK (saturday included.) Can range from a tight perm to a medium curl but we do not have "body wave" rollers (large rollers.) My instructor will be performing the service as a demo- it will take a but on the long side but is totally free (and she works in a salon charging $180+ for a perm, so its a good deal!)

Anyone? Anyone? Must have not color treated or permed hair in the last month....
  • Do people still get permanents? Huh!
  • Oh yeah... a lot of chicks with curly hair get perms to make them more consistent and less frizzy. And asian women LOVE LOVE LOVE perms.
  • DAMN! I'm outta town AND colored my hair recently. I'd totally be down.
  • For a perm? Haha!

That totally makes sense Carmen.I had a perm once.
  • I permed my hair once in 7th grade. I once had straight hair. After that perm, wavy hair for the rest of my life. people say it's a coincidence, that I must have started puberty at the same time, but that was one tight perm!

I'd love to get my hair colored. Or get that Brazilian straightening keratin thing done. Keep us posted.

Oh, and if you need to practice old-fashioned hairdos - like pincurls, up-dos and all that vintage stuff (I hear that's still need to know in cosmetology school) I'm really into that!

    Do WANT!
  • Isn't that brazilian thing formaldehyde? Totally unregulated and stuff? Carmen's school wouldn't do it.
  • We don't do keratin straightening because we only use aveda products and they don't offer it. It doesn't really have anything to do with it being FDA approved or non-approved, but we cannot use ANYTHING non-aveda except relaxers, because aveda does not a relaxing product.

For the record i kick ass at fingerwaves and pincurls. And totally suck at updos. Just sayin.
  • I want fingerwaves or pincurls!!! Too bad my hairs hold it for approx three minutes.
  • I will also be needing a model for the following over the next four weeks (in this order)-
    Long layer haircut
Root retouch (single process, no other chemical process on roots [relaxers, perms, chemical straighteners, etc.)
    Partial highlight
    Full highlight

Any color services incur a $10.40 charge per bowl of color for the cost of the chemicals. Its very rare that more than one bowl is used unless you have very long or thick hair. Lots of students in my class have trouble getting models (due to living far away) so I can pass along names. As always, tips are appreciated but not mandatory.
  • i need a long layer cut, but i don't want much length off, just cleaner ends, so i don't know if i'm a good choice.

also, i will fix your fox if we do this at your place instead (or mine).

of course! I can do whatever you like, lady. It would be *better* if I could have you come into the salon, only because I have quotas and I cant use anything outside of school (like 8billion haircuts and blowouts, etc.) I can probably take you this sat if you're interested- we'll find out this week if we can have people come in on saturday. It would be free, of course :)
  • a weekday -- like this wednesday or friday -- might even be better, if that's better for you. or do you only do this on saturdays?
  • Mrs. why is interested in a trim.

    no dye.

    3 - 4" off the bottom
  • Whynot- tell the missus I can prob take her next weekend at some point or I can do it outside of the salon if she prefers.

ALL- If anyone wants to come in for a blowout or long-layer haircut THIS SATURDAY at 8:30AM (yes, its early) let me know!
  • pics or none of this ever happened.

feel free to insert cat or dog faces to protect the innocent.
  • BUMP from my facebook-

I will need models for the following between December 7-Dec 19. All services are FREE with the exception of color which is $10.40 per bowl (aveda color only, really nice stuff.) PLEASE let me know if you're interested- services are provided DURING THE DAY from 8am-3pm, tues-sat

    4 womens haircuts (any style)
    1 mens haircut
1 partial highlight (most likely 1 bowl unless toning is needed)
1 full highlight (most likely 1-2 bowls depending on length of hair)
1 single-process (can be root retouch- number of bowls totally dependent on hair length/texture)

These can also be combined (IE a root retouch and a higlight, a color and cut, etc.) The mens haircut might be taken, not sure yet. Everything is supervised, esp the color stuff (instructors approve our formulas before we mix anything.) This will hit craigslist if no one wants it!
  • y'all should do this. carmen did a super-duper job on my hair. plus, her funny instructor will distract the cute straight guy with random questions so you can get a proper look at him.
  • Aw thanks sweet tea....she was BRAVE and was my first non-peer haircut!! What a trooper!

    Ahaha! Nice.

Eye candy while you get your hair did.
  • I'm up for highlights! What's a single-process?
  • Single-process is basically a one-step lightening or darkening with permanent or demi-permanent hair color (something that doesn't require toning, like grey coverage.) The single process appt is actually taken, though.

The partial highlight is still open HOWEVER the dates have changed (thanks, school!) The available dates for the partial highlight are Dec 21, 22nd or 23rd at 8:30am or 9am (yup, its early.)

    STILL OPEN are:
    Mens haircut
    2 womens haircuts

Available dates are Dec 21-23rd and pending dec 17th later in the morning (11am-ish.)
  • I can do 12/21 for the partial highlights!
  • I just got my hair did by Carmen. Great cut! Fun times and I also got a semi-permanent dye job. Looks shinny and healthy!
