New Historic District In Our Neighborhood — Brooklynian

New Historic District In Our Neighborhood

Yesterday the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted unanimously to establish the Ocean on the Park Historic District, comprising 10 limestone and 2 brick row houses on Ocean Avenue, between Lincoln Road and Parkside Avenue in PLG.

Congratulations to the home owners who worked long and hard for this designation!

There was one really dramatic development at the LPC vote yesterday morning. The owner of #189, the end house on the north side of the district, demanded that her objections (already expressed at the hearing several months ago) be heard. The Commission listened and, although they voted to designate the whole row, they promised staff help with problems that might develop due to the construction site next door at # 185 [the site whhere the demolition of an historic house spurred efforts for the establishment of an HD]. The dramatic part is that the commissioners held a separate vote to calendar the adjacent lot (#185) as a possible addition to the Ocean on the Park HD. This might be part of an LPC effort to address the problem of construction adjacent to historic districts.
