Traffic nightmare on Friday night, October 30th.

Did anyone try to get anywhere by car or bus on Friday night. At 5:15 when I was heading to Flatbush Avenue to meet someone I should have realized something was up when I couldn't cross 8th Avenue on my way to catch the 7th Avenue bus northbound and just walked. It took almost 20 minutes or more to get from 9th Street to Carroll - at which point my friend met me at Santa Fe Grill instead of the place on Flatbush she had suggested. The traffic was jammed up all over the whole area due to a bad accident at Cadman Plaza on the BQE. Did anyone experience this as well - and does anyone know what happened - all I could find when I Googled it was that there was a school bus involved, but I don't know if there were children on it and if anyone was seriously injured or killed. Any info on this?

  • yeah what was up with that? it was the same down by Bartel Pritch. Sq for like 3 hours.
  • I rode my bike home from Manhattan yesterday, and it was jam-packed the whole way. I don't know what it was - marathon street closures? Friday night Halloween party-goers?
  • there was some sort of crane accident that screwed up traffic everywhere. it took my son 55 minutes to get from our house in PS to the ballfields in Red hook, a ride that usually takes under 10 minutes.
  • ^^^it was crazy in Manhattan, too - coincidence then?
  • I heard that a flatbed truck lost its load on the BQE.
  • Yeah - it was crazy yesterday. Walking from Carroll to Flatbush on 8th Ave was annoying as hell with the honking
  • There wasn't enough honking. It's very effective at clearing up traffic jams. In fact, if people just did it all the time everyone would always be moving.
  • I couldn't even return my zipcar on time. :-)
