Can anyone recommend good cheap gyms in Bensonhurst?

Has anyone tried any of the ones along McDonald avenue?

KG fitness on Kings Highway and McDonald Avenue
Body by Mike Avenue and Body, Mind, Spirit(I think that's the name?) Personal training studio P and McDonald Avenue
The one that is supposedly between Avenue M and N of McDonald Avenue:
Ferrigno Health Club(gym)

thanks any info on fees and type of payment would be appreciated.
especially if there is an initial membership fee thank you!

  • I remember Ferrigno's gym on McDonald ave between M-N. It was a great place and my friends and I would go there often after school and in the summer. The place was managed by Lou's brother and Lou's sister worked out there often. It was a large gym with a great locker room. I used to pay $200 for a years membership. They even had a large parking lot for the members.
Unfortunatly its a furniture store now. Ugly over the top furniture store. Ferrigno's gym has been closed for many years. If they opened up again, I would sign up in a heart beat!

  • oh wow, not that me knowing this information would change anything but how long ago did you go to Ferrigno's gym or when did you start? and would you happen to know when it closed down?

  • I was last at Ferrigno's Gym in 1997. Before they turned into a furniture store, the Ferrigno's did only gym equipment sales. Here's a tidbit on how it all started, or rather how it ended.

A guy named Donnie Puccio (sp) was bench pressing. I dunno exactly what occurred but a miscommunication happened as to who had control of the barbell. Story goes that Donnie said, "hold on I gotta scratch my nose". Somehow the barbell fell and wrecked his face. From what I was told, he had reconstructive surgery and people who hadn't seen him in a long time would nto recognize him. I believe he also sued the gym, and word was that Ferrigno did not have insurance on the gym. All sad cos Ferrigno's bro was very nice.
