Miriams.. quick opinion

I looked for previous comments on this restaurant on 5th ave and the posts were really ancient.

Thursday night we had dinner here with some friends. The experience was lovely. Israeli owned it would seem but infusions of continental flavors too. We had 5 people eating so the things on table included a lovely brisket served with lemony brussel sprouts and kugal to whole fish, lamb tagene. All the food was lovely and mon-thurs bottle of wine was half price and the choices were good.

So we saw an off broadway show sun night and didn't want t deal with Manhattan choices so drifted back to Brooklyn and landed up here again. We ordered a Mediteranean Salad and some small plates that included calimar and falafel and stuffed pita .. think late lite supper and again we were impressed by the food, the quiet and sweet, attentive not intrusive service.

  • veets, i've been to go since forever. a former studio-mate's husband is one of the owners so she did all the the tile work.

i've heard brunch there is exceptional, and i love the decor every time i walk by.
  • "no one goes there anymore

    it's too crowded"

  • Perhaps I was lucky but thurs nite we got a table for 6 people at around 9pm. The restaurant was about half full and Sun it was the last hour before closing and there were people at the bar and only one other table.
  • I've had good meals there, but I think brunch is where they shine (and the best value). I've never had a spectacular dinner there, just solid. Dinner seems to be easier to get a table where as brunch you can expect a wait no matter what after 11am.
  • Yep, that's one of our favorite brunch spots. Great food, lovely atmosphere and good service.
  • Never was a fan at all, although the place is absolutely packed. Maybe I'm still mourning the short-lived Surreal Cafe, or that I did get served absolutely rancid shrimp at Miriam once, but there's nothing there that ever screams out "you should eat here," and I literally live about four blocks away.
  • I went to Miriam's twice and was not impressed with their S-L-O-W and RUDE service. The food was "Okay.."
  • brunch is good (not excellent), dinner is terrible.

there are about 15 other places in the neighborhood i'd rather go to than miriam.
  • I've had many wonderful dinners at Miriam's. Have had regular table service and we ate at the bar once when it was really crowded; have always had good service. Sounds like I need to check out the brunch one of these days.
  • I LOVE this place for brunch, I sat at the bar and had amazing service and delicious food. Yum.

I haven't been in a few months, this reminds me I have got to go back!
  • Never been for brunch. Dinner has always been good but not great.

That is a great deal on the bottles of wine. When I first went it was 50% off on Mondays only, then it expanded to Mondays and Tuesdays. Hope the Monday-Thursdays gets them some business and they don't close down as they did the Cobble Hill branch.

ETA: went there for dinner last night. The service is very friendly but kind of inept - as we sat down, we were handed the menus and the waitperson launched into the specials while we were still taking off our coats. She never came back over to take a drinks order, so we ordered food and drinks together, and the wine arrived on the table along with the appetizers. Apps were great (burekas, lamb turnover, spicy calamari), main courses so-so (Husband's grouper was good, my moussaka had woody, undercooked eggplant), desserts good - miniscule baklava offset by portion size of apple-phyllo dessert with ice cream. Again - good overall but not great.
