shooting on brooklyn and dean — Brooklynian

shooting on brooklyn and dean

right outside my window, southeast corner of brooklyn and dean. had my window open and heard a single shot. then heard cops come and saw a white guy or girl (couldn't tell) on the ground holding his leg. could see blood on the sidewalk. the victim's groceries were all over the sidewalk.

just read about the mugging on brooklyn and bergen earlier today. hooray.

  • yes the same cop who took my statement at the precinct earlier just knocked on my door and asked me about it because it was right out my open window too... (do we live in the same building?)

anyway i told him i thought i heard a pan drop upstairs. usually i think EVERYTHING is a gunshot! i must be getting desensitized...

he also saw he was sorry he had to see me twice in one day...

i heard from the officer the shooting was a result of an argument and the victim is alive.
  • brooklynleather: if you live in the building on the corner where the shooting happened then we live in the same building. hi!

the cop said it was an argument? that seems...strange to me. the guy was walking home with groceries from what i saw. his bags were scattered all around him. i suppose he could have gotten into an argument with a stranger on the way home...

did the cop say how he knew it was an argument?

my girlfriend took our dogs outside after the ambulance left and the detective she spoke to didn't seem to know what happened.
  • well hello neighbor!

yes he said it was an argument. i don't know how he knew but he was the same detective who dealt with my mugging earlier in the day.
  • Female victim. Attempted robbery. Perp displayed a firearm. Victim says,"That's not real" and starts to walk away. I guess it was a real gun after all.

How do you know all this? When I talked to the cops last night, I sang like a bird about every detail I saw but the detective I talked to seemed to know nothing, or was blatantly holding back information, when I saw with my own eyes that the victim was coherent enough to move on her own, use her cellphone, and answer any immediate questions the cops might have had.

I have often wondered how I would react if someone tried to mug me, and I have to admit that against my better judgement I would probably fight back. But NOT if someone were pointing a gun at me? This seems a bit fishy. That, or she's ten times the hardass I'll ever be.

In the meantime, to all who live here--- be alert. ...And never question whether guns are real in this neighborhood. That being said, I still love Crown Heights.
  • so i guess the argument was about whether the gun was real...
  • ParadeRest knows the details bc he is an EMT
  • Then I'm sorry, but that girl's an idiot.
  • So, I am getting ready for class right now and I hear sirens (big deal) but now there are a bunch of cops with walkies outside patrolling Dean between Brooklyn and Kingston. In the middle of this block, there is an ambulance a cop car and an FDNY suv.

The cops are walking around with notepads and seem to be canvassing or something. Don't know if this is related to anything last night, or if it's a separate incident, but this is a bit too much neighborhood "charm" for one week.
  • I wonder what is goin on Pittie City.

That is super scary about the attempted robbery. All guns should be assumed real!
  • Damn that really sucks. Pretty late though if the time stamp is correct... what grocery store is open around then? Or maybe they brought groceries home from the city. Shit. My gf often takes the train home late... I don't know what to do. I will start walking her home.
  • Get a Pit Bull. In Crown Heights, it's almost the equivalent of walking around with a loaded gun... Seriously.
  • mr. met wrote: ParadeRest knows the details bc he is an EMT
    Negative.
  • oh, sorry. i think another poster said you were an EMT in some other thread.
  • Isn't ParadeRest an officer?
  • Subject: My corner!

I live on the northwest corner of Brooklyn and Dean! My roommate heard the shot and but thought she was being paranoid (she moved to the city not too long ago). Wow. And I always assumed my block was pretty safe....
  • Subject: neighbors

I wonder if we live int he same building, vic?

It seems like a lot of us on this corner!

I am speaking to tenants about starting a block association as I do not believe there is one on my block right now.

true to that... the night of the shooting cops told us that it was a break-in in the house on the corner... yet, a week later, a detective from 77th prct told me the same info as ParadeRest posted and warned me about taking such threats seriously... whoever ParadeRest is, the info is accurate... :(
